This subterranean journey into the Catacombs delves into the intriguing past of Rome, beneath it’s bustling avenues and towering monuments to the hidden aspects of this historic city. The trip features some of the most unique, enigmatic and extraordinary points of interest in the Eternal City. A scenic open bus takes you from the heart of the city to the underground catacombs. A deficiency of land for the interment of the deceased led to the formation of the catacombs. This extensive labyrinth of underground tunnels served as a cemetery and a place of worship for early Christians in Rome. Accompanied by a knowledgeable guide, you will explore and learn about the captivating history of these sanctified locations: Guided tour at the Catacombe di San Callisto, barring Wednesdays when you will visit the Catacombe di Santa Domitilla. A dress code applies, and it’s advised to bring a light jacket, as temperatures can drop underground.
- Catacombs tour is not recommended for travelers who may get claustrophobic due to the small spaces.
- The tour is not accessible for visitors on wheelchairs or with severe motor disabilities.
- Dress code is required: shoulders and knees has to be covered.
- Visitors with specific disabilities may be entitled to a free ticket after speaking directly to the ticket office of Catacombs.

Catacombs Tour - This was a lovely Tour. Driver so knowledgeable and during trip out to Catacombs he pointed out various other places of interest. Grounds around at Catacombes are stunning and guided tour through them was excellent.

Definitely a highlight - The tour to the catacombs was very interesting, especially thanks to our driver Alessandro. He showed us many sights outside the city center and his playlist was also great.
His love for his city was simply infectious!

Amazing and worthwhile place to see in Rome - The bus takes you to the catacombs and the lovely guide tells you about the Rome sights on the way. There you are divided into groups depending the language you speak. Visit takes about an hour in the catacombs and it is amazing to see this cemetery place of first christians. You go 40m underground by stairs. Very peaceful feeling it gives you this place.

The real highlight of our 2nd trip to Rome - Apart from the obligatory queue in front of the tourist information desk, this booked experience (as well as the visit to Castel Sant'Angelo) was the best! As has already been reported here, the trip with Alessandro was a top-class sightseeing experience, we weren't expecting anything like it! You don't have to like the music on the bus, but it's hard not to be infected by his good mood. We learned a lot of interesting things, for example about the Aurelian Wall or the Via Appia. The area around the catacombs is very beautiful, quiet fields with olive trees, palm trees, avenues of columnar cypresses....The tour through the catacombs takes about 40 minutes, it's a mystery to me how you could find your way around this 3-story labyrinth. I don't want to go into any other details, you have to see it for yourself, it's impressive and oppressive at the same time.
Taking photos is prohibited, it's advisable to have a jacket with you.
The return trip was just as entertaining and interesting as the outward journey.
Everything went well, we recommend this tour!

Neat experience but not explorative - Seeing the catacombs was very interesting! Unfortunately, you aren’t able to take picture or videos and you don’t get to explore much. I would have loved to get to walk around more rather than standing in a giant group in one area. With that being said, I still am happy to have gone to experience the catacombs.

Just ok - It was just ok. The drive to/from the catacombs was very entertaining and interesting. The catacombs wasn’t what I was expecting so it was disappointing. Part of my tour turned out to be a cluster so I only did one part. Like I said, it was just ok.

Would not recommend- sorry! - Terrible tour, I’m afraid! The tour guide spent a good chunk of the time telling us about himself and asking people where they were from, rather than talking about the catacombs. He was also very difficult to understand and, beyond this, there was a lot of waiting around on the tour overall. Sorry- I would be happy to discuss with Viator.

Don’t do this bus tour- book directly instead - This tour included a bus tour of parts of the city that were not expected and unnecessary if all you want to do is visit the catacombs. You’re better off buying tickets directly at the site of the catacombs for €10, getting a taxi there and back, and not commit to a bus trip in and out of the area, which adds to the cost and time of your visit.

Really disappointing - This was not at all what we were expecting. We thought there would be an extensive guided tour of catacombs (many several sites) but this was not the case. We spent an hour on a bus receiving a guided tour of Roman sites and a short visit to one catacomb that was completely empty of artifacts. (What you see in the picture is accurate--that is all you will see. Our catacomb guide did little to engage us during the tour, leaving us all pretty bored. The unexpected highlight was the bus tour guide--his love of Rome and enthusiasm in ensuring we were enlightened and entertained by his tour was the one bright spot. But if you are looking for more than underground tunnels, then book a tour of the Capuchin Crypt instead. (We wish we had!)

Scam!!! - SCAM! We paid €72 for an activity with transport and were left on the sidewalk because they overbooked. Without a solution… flee!
