From top to bottom—a great tour! - We had been to SM Maggiore before, but seeing the loggia and the roof with the domes was wonderful! The mosaics on the loggia must be viewed up close, and the roof affords views of the campanile and the city that you don’t get from below. There was a wait of about an hour between the visit to the crypt and the roof/loggia, so be aware you will have some time to pass (easily done in the church itself, but just to manage expectations).

The Basilica is... - The Basilica is beautiful. Unfortunately, no one was there to meet us for the tour. We asked in several places and spoke to a few people, and it was a wild goose chase. We ended up going inside the church and walking around, but we lacked the context of what we were looking at.
