Come explore the Piazza Navona Underground! Unearth the remnants of the Stadium of Domitian, recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site and placed under passive preservation by a Ministerial Decree enacted on April 7, 1954. These ruins rest about 4.50 meters below the surface of Piazza Navona; this archaeological site is the only evidence we have of a brick and mortar stadium in Rome to date.
For the first time, a newly refurbished section of the Archaeological Area of the Domitian Stadium is available for public viewing. Touring both Archaeological Areas sheds light on the history of Piazza Navona and provides a comprehensive understanding of the Stadium of Domitian which it was constructed upon.
