'The guide with the long name' really made this tour something special! - Fantastic experience! Our guide, Ngatoroirangi, was absolutely brilliant and made our experience even more fantastic. He was so passionate about his culture, his ancestry, his whenua - but also had a cheeky sense of humour that everyone enjoyed. I would highly recommend taking the tour before enjoying the mud pools and sulphur pools so that you can then take your time there. You also learn so much more from the tour although you can also do a self-guided tour.

Interesting excursion or things to research - The Geothermal Areas were awesome to see and walk through. The Sulfur smell is extremely strong, so if you have sensitive smell issues, you might want to wear a mask or something. The carving prior to leaving was an interesting task, nothing I got excited for. The mud bath, my wife says was not too too bad. Remember to bring your own swim wear and a dry off towel, because they’ll be more than happy to sell you these services.

Truly a unique experience - Our tour guide on the 10:30 March 24th tour was amazing. He was a native who provided both the scientific information on the thermal pools and the native cultural context and background of the area. Everyone was friendly and welcoming- the nature walk combined with the mud baths is truly a very unique experience.

Brilliant Thermal Experience - Interesting walk to view the hot pools, waterfalls and ferns. Professional and helpful staff. Loved the chance to go to the mud bath and pools afterwards. We were sitting in the cafe later and were offered the chance to take part in the Maori carving activity which had been closed earlier due to lack of staff. The guide was very helpful, safe, encouraging and entertaining!!

Geothermal pools and spa - A lot of walking, followed by a wonderful mud spa. Our guides Luke and Arihi were great, well humoured and informative, giving us tips on local eateries and washing instructions. Thanks to them both.

Hell’s Gate - First time taking a mud bath. Could have soaked in the sulphur springs all day! We did a self guided tour of the geothermal springs. Took lots of pictures. Took an Uber there and back. Less than 10 miles out of town.

Child's Play - The guide for our tour (March 17th) was passionate, informative, energetic and interactive. This made our walking experience a great one. The mud pools were fun - I felt like a child again. The subsequent effect was serenity and calm - I slept that night for 10 hours straight - for a menopausal woman this is incredible 😲
