- We recommend that women do not use our bathing facilities whilst pregnant. However, it is an individual’s choice and we recommend that you seek advice from your health professional if you are wanting to bathe.
- Not recommended for travelers with heart problems or other serious medical conditions
- The minimum age for the Mud Bath is 2.5 years, and for the Sulphur Spa is 6 months.
- Children are considered those aged 5 -15. Under 4s are free when accompanied by a paying adult.

Hell's Gate is located just outside of Rotorua's city centre. From the city simply travel east on State Highway 30. At approximately 5 minutes past the airport, you will turn right towards Whakatane. Hell's Gate is 3kms down this road.

Hell’s Gate Geothermal Spa is the place to visit in New Zealand - Hell’s Gate Geothermal Spa is truly a special place to visit.
The hot mud spa is the the experience you can’t miss. I also had a guided tour along the geo thermal lakes and pools.
My tour guide “T” was fantastic!
Explained about the cultural aspect of the place and history of the indigenous people and their connection with the place.
Is an absolutely remarkable place for myself and my family. Highly recommended to everyone!

Mud Bath to linger - Be prepared for your swimmers to really smell of sulphur for weeks after using them in the mud bath. Also the sulphur smell lingers in your skin for several showers and several days. But I highly recommend it as an experience.

Do Not Miss HELLS GATE - This is a “must visit” The staff, Binod and others were so welcoming. The facilities were very clean and well maintained. The experience was a true highlight of our New Zealand Adventure

The full experience is a definite must - We had a fantastic day at Hells Gate. The walk is out of this world and absolutely incredible.
We did a Maori carving which we took home and Luuk, the fantastic staff member, showed us exactly what to do and helped my disabled friend complete her carving.
The mud pools, followed by the Sulphur pools are so soothing and my skin feels incredible. We had a fantastic 5 hours and would recommend it to everyone.

A fun experience. - This was recommended to us and we really enjoyed it. We got the guided tour and I think that makes a difference because you really understand what you are looking at. We did the mud bath and pools and that was fun as well. I think all in all it is totally worth visiting!

Wonderful experience at a beautiful spa. - First class. Loved the surroundings, the staff and the treatments we had. The five geo thermal baths were an excellent way to spend a couple of hours in as we paid for the Deluxe Package. High recommend this spa.

Too many people - It was way too busy. There was a half hour wait to get into the mud bath portion. When we finally got there, we had to wait some time because the mud was all used up and needed to be replenished. So many people were in the thermal “tubs” it felt like we were just a human soup. It was not relaxing.
