Immersive Maori Village Experience! - This is a working thermal Maori Village with 70 residents. It’s fascinating! They cooked corn on the cob in a geyser for us to eat and we learned so much about the Maori history and culture. If we had more time, we would have done the tour that included a traditional Hangi dinner in the evening. Our fascinating guide, Daniel, shared his stories, culture, and history with us in a compelling and interesting way. Highly recommend!

Learn about and Support Maori Culture - This is a very special experience. Guiding is a centuries old tradition passed down through generations in this Iwi. Kylie was a thoughtful and hospitable guide, who truly gave us a warm welcome into her home. You will learn how the community thrives in the geothermal conditions of the land around them, making use of the land and water to cook, bathe, and heal. The cultural performance was so amazing, I was overwhelmed with how lucky I was to experience it. I cannot reccomend this experience enough as a proper way to learn about and support Maori culture.

Wonderful tour - This is a wonderful place to see life of the natives and the geothermal landscape. It is worth spending half a day there. The staff in the admission office were really friendly and helpful. They volunteered to solve our booking problem and even rearranging our transportation.

Amazing place, Amazing people - This is a very special place. First of all, this village has been doing their own tourism for over 120 years. Yet it's still a place where people really live. The guides are lovely, it's a landscape like nothing you've ever experienced before. Words fail to describe it properly, so just go.

Learn about Maori culture in a stunning setting - We started our visit with a self guided tour of the mud pools. It took around one hour, following a pathway past steaming pools and bubbling mud. Once we had finished that we went on a guided tour of the village, by Philip a very knowledgeable and respected Maori. He started by taking us to the village hall, which was magnificently decorated. He explained the meaning if each decoration. We the went to the hot pools, were we ate freshly cooked corn on the cobs, cooked in a hot pool. He also showed us their cooking oven, simply a wooden box over a hole in the ground. Followed by a trip to their baths where they bathe at 40c. Finally to the Geiger. We also had booked for the 12.30 performance, which of course included the hacka. Totally mesmerising. A great 4 hours well spent.

Good experience. - It was a good experience. Our guide gave us some history and explanations of some Māori customs. We were treated to a convivial family show of dancing along with the inevitable haka. There's a good opportunity to see lots of hot pools, mud pools etc. And for those who dare, the hāngī meal was very good.
