Wonderful museum of true ocean cruising - Excellent restoration on this ship showing the height of ocean cruising. The audio tour is very good and the docents are great. Toured the first class areas, bridge, and sports decks. Lots of history of the Holland America line contained on the ship. Wish had time for engine room tour as well.

Great tour with passionate volunteers! - The tour with audiophone was fine, but the extra addition of the passionate volunteers with their stories was totally top notch. We started with the engine room, impressive with great stories from the experienced engineer. Then enjoyed a high tea in the Clubroom, delicious and then continued with the tour. From Ambassador Lounge to the deck and through to the wheelhouse. It was a great experience!

Very nice, beautiful and interesting - We did a full tour. Basically you do that with an audio device. There were also many volunteers on virtually every floor. These people have given us double pleasure with their enthusiasm and anecdotes. They really make it perfect! A very nice experience, nice to see what could already be built in the Netherlands (RDM) and what beautiful technology is in the ship. Go look too I would say

Cruising in a bygone era - I was visiting Rotterdam on P&O Iona & jumped at the chance to visit SS Rotterdam. So glad that I did, she is a beautiful ship and a great reminder of what cruising and ocean liners used to be like. We took the upper deck self guided tour which was easy to navigate. We spoke to a number of tour guides on our way around who were only too happy to elaborate on what we were seeing. The visit to the bridge was a particular highlight, we were able to learn all about the individual pieces of machinery & what life was like for the people who served there. There were a lot of stairs to navigate and they were slippery because of rain. I’d advise caution if you have mobility issues. I would definitely return to explore the ship further, other people I’ve spoken to who went later in the day to me were able to access more public areas than I was, It’s a working hotel & I guess that it all depends on how busy things are at any particular time.

A true experience of a by-gone cruise ship era. - I was staying overnight in Rotterdam (no, not onboard this ship/hotel) to board my own cruise leaving the following day. Being a fan of Holland America Cruise Lines, I was excited to have an opportunity to visit and tour the SS Rotterdam V docked at the Rotterdam cruise port. The admission cost was very reasonable and allowed me to see many of the interesting areas of the ship. Although several decks are now hotel rooms, there are plenty of other public decks to experience. The ship decor is fantastic....restored to it's glory years of sailing in the late '50's and 60's. I loved the art deco furnishings, most of which are original to the ship. If you enjoy cruising, Holland America, or just like seeing how the elite of a bygone era spent their vacation time, don't miss this special ship. Plan on about 2 hours to fully see all the open areas.

Interesting - A must visit when in rottredam, huge ship and hotel. Amazing how they maintain it, and they open for visitors to tour all different decks.

Lovely ship but accommodation needs reviewing - The ship is amazing but accommodation is lacking. Beds are bizarre, mattress constantly slides off which is very frustrating. Bedside lamps is fixed to table and far too close to the bed so it rattles all night and the room was unbearably hot. No fans offered. Staff on the whole helpful apart from one very rude volunteer worker who rudely sent me away from a floor as it ‘wasn’t free’ for me to view!! The ship itself is in the middle of nowhere. Food in the restaurant is lovely and not too expensive. Would recommend the ship tour.

Guided tour by enthusiastic guide - Had a 1.5 hour tour of the ship with colleagues. Our guide, Cock, has worked as an engineer on this ship for years. With great enthusiasm he talked about everything there was to see, such as the engine room, the bridge, the swimming pool and the captain's quarters. Fun activity to do with colleagues, for example. Not suitable for wheelchair users or people with mobility problems.
