Highlights

Experience the magic of Lapland and photograph the amazing Northern Lights! Going Aurora hunting with our professional guides, you have the best possible chance to witness the Northern Lights. We are Lapland’s top tour company specialised in Aurora photography and will ensure that you get the photos of a lifetime.

The focus of our expedition is the Rovaniemi area and we travel by minivan. We start with a team meeting about the tour of the day. You will get a short briefing about current weather conditions, Aurora forecasts and about our destination of the day.

Northern Lights are always unpredictable and there is no guarantee that we will find them every night. However, we give you the best possible chance to experience and photograph these mystical wonders of the Arctic area. What sets us apart from other tour providers is a genuine determination of finding the Northern Lights. With us you are a member of an exclusive team led by a professional expedition guide. Simply put, we are real Aurora hunters and rely on the following to succeed in our mission:

  • background research into local weather and Aurora forecasts
  • live information feed coming direct into our minivan
  • local knowledge of all the best viewing spots
  • willingness to go the extra mile

During the night, we normally go to 2-3 different locations which are always chosen according to local weather conditions and photographic opportunities. This means that if we have a clear sky and a possibility to see the Aurora 100 km away, we will take the chance and drive you there.

Altogether we have over 50 locations from which we can choose the best ones each night! After reaching our destination we leave the minivan and continue on foot to reach the perfect spots in the middle of the nature. In the destination our guide, a professional photographer, helps you prepare your cameras for Northern Lights photography and we are ready for the show of a lifetime!

Very good experience - We had a very good experience, our guide was Pasi. It was very cloudy and Pasi was motivated and changed location several times to find a place with a clear sky. Aurora this evening was week, but without our guide we would not have seen it. He made nice pictures with light-painting, this was fun. We recommend Beyond the Arctic.

Good experience - We had an amazing experience chasing the northern lights with Oren our guide, he shared information about the lights and kept us engaged through out the drive. He was passionately trying to make sure that we see the lights but the weather was cloudy and we could only see for a moment but the journey was worth it. Oren gave us nice hot berry juice, I strongly recommend the tour with Oren.

Unforgettable experience - This was an amazing experience ! Our guide Auren was very knowledgeable and managed to find us a very nice spot to see the northern lights. The weather was a bit cloudy so we had to go to the south (about one hour drive) to be able to spot them. Because of the moon, the northern lights were a bit weaker but still very beautiful. We did beautiful pictures with the whole family (including a 5-year old kid). Truly a unique experience, which I highly recommend. Thanks again to Auren for these unique memories 😊

Will definitely choose beyond artic again! - Our partner and I visited in end of feburary 2024 and we booked 3 different northern lights hunting trip with first two being cancelled due to bad weather but we decided to go ahead with the second one anyways. Beyond artic is the third trip that we booked and it was the best one cuz we had Natasha as our guide! I swear she made all the difference. During our stay the sky was so cloudy we were giving up hope but Natasha managed to capture a photo with northern lights for us! It was our last night and she made it happened! When she told me she wanted to see the northern lights more than me she really meant it. She was very passionate and she spent 200% effort to chase the light for us. We left at around 7pm and came back to around 2am. that's how hard she tried! Thank you Natasha for everything, we are so so so grateful for you! We would definitely choose beyond artic again in the future, compared to other travel agencies they are much more responsive and professional.

Enchanting Night Light Show over Rovaniemi - Our unique experience to view this celestial phenom of Aurora Borealis w/ its neon-like multicolored natural lighting of the sky was quite a spectacle. On March 11, 2024, My wife Hai & I joined a small group of 8 people for what was to be a Northern Light Photography tour by the "Beyond Artic" company in Rovaniemi. Our Professional Nature tour guide & Van driver was Pasi. A tall, good natured, soft-spoken likable friendly fellow articulate w/ a strong Finnish accent but w/ good communicative skill nevertheless and quite knowledgeable, He was very helpful in every way, guiding us on how to adjust the settings of our cameras, as well as guide us safely thru a maze of snow-covered pathways. What started as a discouragingly cloudy skies at 8:00pm eventually turned to be a spectacular night for photography enthusiasts like us. By the time we reached our 1st stop w/c I believe was in Kittilante by the bank of Ounajokis river (according to my GPS), the sky cleared w/ bright stars & the milky way, but no Aurora Borealis. After Pasi showed us how to photograph the Milkyway, he decided to drive to a different location. This I believe was Kuusamontie by the Kenjoki river (GPS info). We were elated to see the sky lit w/ glossy green celestial lights w/ a smudge of pinkish tinge in the middle on a milkyway background. We had a heyday photographing the sky. But after awhile the lights started to dim & the clouds started to move in. Pasi drove to another location w/c I believe was Oikarainen. It was about 10: 13 pm. There was Northern Light but very weak activity & very faint not worth photographing. Pasi not wanting us to be discourage & disappointed, suggested to drive farther some 30 km NW of Rovaniemi. By this time it's 11: 40 pm. Pasi's patience & determination to chase that Aurora phenomenon paid-off. As we drove inside a thin forest & reached a clearing, there it was, a brightly lit sky in full colors. We finally met the elusive Lady Aurora in all its splendor w/ its multicolored veil of lights on display in a natural light show. It was an enchanting time to end the evening. We had a field day of astro-photography. We thank the "Beyond the Artic" & their pleasant staff for arranging this wonderful tour w/ special mention to our nature guide Pasi for his dedication & professionalism, fulfill our needs, keep us safe, happy & satisfied. I highly recommend "Beyond the Artic" & Pasi without reservation.

We had the most challenging night with snow and week aurora, everything was against us and we drove for hrs north to Kittilä where he spotted something and for around 5-10minutes we had the northern ligths! Amazing trip with bonfire and sausage and hot drink as well, one guy in the car asked was it worth continuing to drive and it was!! Oren never gave up

A must do in Rovaniemi - An amazing experience from start to finish. Convenient pick up and drop off to our accommodation which was a massive benefit. Tour guide Oren was knowledgeable and informative and made our Safari the best it could be with his friendly and professional personality. We managed to see the Northern lights at our very first stop, just 20 minutes from the city centre. Oren took the time during the journey to explain exactly what to look for and made sure that we all got the best photographs possible whilst there. His guidance and knowledge was invaluable. We went to a second stop shortly after and managed to see the lights again, before resting at a teepee where a fire was made and we roasted finish sausages. Overall a fantastic experience and we highly recommend Beyond Artic. Professional photos are taken on the company’s camera and emailed to you shortly after. So you don’t need to take a professional camera with you. They also provide all equipment, snow suit, boots, gloves, socks and tripods for holding mobile phones. Just remember the northern lights are not guaranteed. We had a clear night where you could see the entire milky way. The company will do its best to find a location where the probability is highest but 99% is luck. We were lucky we had a clear sky on our evening. A big thanks to Oren for making the outing special and extremely enjoyable

Unforgettable aurora views and awesome guide - The northern light views during this tour were incredible, even though the evening started with a really cloudy weather. Our guide, Finn was very passionate about and experienced with chasing aurora and went out of his way to make sure we got a great show. He was patient and excited the whole time and I feel he brought a hope and positivity against what started as a disappointing weather. We ended up getting an experience of a lifetime with stunning dancing aurora. Can't recommend this tour enough! Totally worth it!!

No lights but still fun - It was unfortunately too cloudy to see any northern lights but our tour guide was amazing and very enthusiastic. We cooked some sausages and marshmallows over a fire in a teepee and also played around with basic night time and light painting photography
