Highlights
  • Lapland Welcome - In the morning you are picked up from your hotel. During the trip you have good opportunities to take photos and enjoy nature. In the afternoon we enjoy barbecue lunch which we prepare by open fire.

The fishing site is a frozen lake in a naturally beautiful surroundings. This is a true nature experience where you can enjoy the silence of the Lappish nature and make nature pictures.

Historians believe the origin of the snowshoe dates back to 2000 BC or 4000 BC. The invention of the snowshoe has been inspired by the animals like snowshoe hares who have oversized feet enabling them to move more quickly through deep snow. Snowshoes were an essential tool for fur traders and trappers to be able to get around areas inaccessible to motorized vehicles when the snow is deep. Today, snowshoes are mostly used by hikers and runners for recreation.

Great Ice Fishing Trip - Me and my friends had gone for an Ice fishing expedition with them and it was fun, informative and well organised. The staff is very friendly and entertaining. My special shout-out to Alex our tour guide and driver who took special care of us. Overall, we had a blast :)

Our worst experience in Rovaniemi - My son and I visited Rovaniemi in early Jan 2020. We booked a number of activities through a variety of operators. From Lapland Welcome we chose the snowshoe to ice fishing tour. The website explicitly says that you use snowshoes to trek into the wildnerness to fish on a frozen lake. In reality our trip was this: We were taken from our hotel to the office in downtown Rovaniemi where we were outfitted, then put in a van and driven for an hour to what I suppose was their remote facility. Upon arrival, we were greeted by an Asian woman whose English was very poor, bordering on unintelligible. She proceeded to help us strap on broken snow shoes, and took us across the property to an open field where hay had been bundled in plastic. She asked if we wanted our pictures taken here (with plastic-wrapped hay in the background? no thanks), and then walked us back. The snowshoeing lasted about 15 minutes. At this point we began the ice fishing. Rather than fishing on a vast lake as the website describes, and the pictures would lead you to believe, we fished on a frozen river with a width of about 3 meters. Our guide told us we shouldn't expect to catch anything over 15cm. That we caught nothing was certainly not her, or the operators, fault. Oddly, this trip fell under their 'Silence and Nature' category on their website. But a family suffering through a similar experience nearby rendered this null and void. In short, the drive was terrible, the location awful, the guide unintelligible. In subsequent readings of other reviews, it seems like perhaps Wild Lapland likes to use foreign exchange students disguised as guides, perhaps to cut corners... I write this negative review to exact revenge for having flushed $200+ US dollars down the drain for a day of my life I'll never be able to get back, but instead because my son was sooooo disappointed that this is how we spent one of our four days in Rovaniemi, where there are so many great things to do, that I'd hate for other travelers to make the same...
