KIGALI - MUSANZE

Ruhengeri - Following breakfast, the Driver Guide will collect guests from the hotel and proceed to the Gisozi Genocide Memorial to explore the Genocide Memorial Center. The Rwandan genocide, also referred to as the genocide against the Tutsi, was a tragic mass killing of Tutsi and moderate Hutu in Rwanda, occurring from April 7 to July 15, 1994, during the Rwandan Civil War. Subsequently, the journey continues to Musanze, renowned for its Mountain Gorillas and Volcanoes, which is a 2-hour drive. Upon arrival in Musanze, guests will check into the hotel, enjoy lunch, and later in the afternoon, join local women in the village for various activities: Village walk, Weaving, Banana Beer experience, and Traditional dance.

During the Village walk, participants will experience the rural Rwandan lifestyle through observing signs and products. The walk includes visits to a local school and the village health center.

Weaving is a notable craft in Rwanda, with baskets, mats, and pots crafted using traditional patterns. Like in other countries, many traditional handicrafts have practical uses or are decorative forms of everyday items.

Banana Beer is an alcoholic drink made by fermenting mashed bananas with Sorghum flour, which acts as a fermenting catalyst. Participants will gain hands-on experience grinding sorghum on a traditional grinding stone to make the beer.

Traditional dance is integral to Rwandan celebrations, where music and dance enliven any occasion, especially when visitors are present, symbolizing happiness. Guests will learn traditional dance with local women and children. After this enriching experience, the group will return to the hotel.

Gorilla Trekking

Volcanoes National Park - After an early breakfast, the drive guide will transport guests to the Volcanoes National Park headquarters for a briefing from the park guide. The guide will accompany the group into the volcanoes forest to begin trekking the mountain gorillas. Visitors will be fascinated by the gorillas’ behavior, size, and communication. After a 2-hour experience, the group will return to the hotel for lunch.

Lake Burera and Lake Ruhondo - These twin lakes are another must-see attraction in Musanze, offering breathtaking views and a memorable experience for anyone visiting Rwanda. The lakes provide stunning views of the volcanoes, and guests will enjoy a boat ride around the islands.

Golden Monkey Trek

Volcanoes National Park - Once again, after an early breakfast, guests will head to the Volcanoes National Park headquarters with the drive guide, meet the park guide for a briefing, and begin trekking the golden monkeys in the volcanoes forest. After a 3-hour experience, the group will have lunch and then return to Kigali.

The mountain gorilla (Gorilla beringei beringei) is a subspecies of the eastern gorilla.
