Sail on Sailor - Capt Magnus and his crew showed us just how beautiful the Bay of Islands really is! Fascinating to learn the history of the ship’s creation and how this activity directly supports youth development in sailing. Bravo Zulu!

Highly recommend this day trip ☺️ - Fantastic day sailing staff were amazing and informative, great BBQ chicken potato salad lunch. Enjoyed the swimming and my 76yr old hubby helped hoist the sails and jumped into the warm waters from the ship twice so much fun. Great to support the youth of the far north to gain life skills and confidence.

Our 4th trip on the RTT and excellent fun as always! - A brilliant day sail experience with a very informative skipper and an enthusiastic young crew. This was our 4th day sail over the years and a stiff breeze ensured good sailing. We never miss an opportunity to go on one of these day sails, such good value. Well done and highly recommended!

Smooth Sailing and Scenery so Beautiful! - Such a breath of fresh air, the scenery and smoothness of this ride was just what the Doctor ordered. The Tall ship and its crew were sensational and I felt very safe! What a wonderful educational opportunity for the young girls and boys to learn how to sail. It was a great day on the ship and meeting other people as well! Thank you!

An amazing day sailing the Bay - We got the ferry to Russell from Paihia, were helped on board, put our bags downstairs and found somewhere to sit up on deck. We motored out of Russell, out into the Bay, after an introduction to the crew, the boats mission, re youth of Northland. A few sails were put up, some passengers helped. There was a safety briefing at the start, then one on harnesses and those who wanted to could climb the rigging. We anchored in a bay, out from an island. We were taken in on a small boat, to walk, swim and enjoy. Back to the ship after an hour, lunch, swinging out into the sea, for those brave enough. We headed back to Russell under sail. It was very peaceful. Books were shared around, with a pictorial history of the ship.

Incredible day trip adventure on a schooner in Bay of Islands! - Absolutely amazing way to experience the Bay of Islands. Captain Magnus and First Mate Nick gave a great overview and history of the R. Tucker Thompson, including the mission to support local kids by teaching them how to sail. We started off by jumping in to help raise the sails as we motored out of the harbor, and then we had the opportunity to climb the rigging and move out onto the bow sprit. We then enjoyed late morning tea time with delicious scones. We continued sailing around the bay before dropping anchor at Moturua Island to explore trails and look for native birds. We returned to the ship for a delicious BBQ lunch before being treated to the thrilling rope swing off of the boat and into the water. Finally we sailed back through the bay and returned to Russell after roughly a 6 hour adventure. A great experience that is not to be missed if you are visiting Bay of Islands!
