Due to the challenging conditions, the Hornstrandir region was completely deserted by its last residents in the early 1950s. Since 1974, the area’s flora and fauna have been under protection, allowing arctic foxes, birds, seals, and plants to flourish without disturbance. This makes for an ideal full-day hike to experience everything the area has to offer. Participants will depart by boat from Ísafjörður in the morning, heading to Aðalvík, and then proceed on foot to the deserted settlement at Hesteyri. Upon arrival at Hesteyri, warm beverages and pancakes will be served at the Doctors House Café. The return journey from Hesteyri will be in the late afternoon, arriving back in Ísafjörður.

This is a moderate hike suitable for individuals in good physical condition. The hiking distance is approximately 11 km over uneven terrain, with an elevation gain of about 300 m.
