Ascend to the Heavens: Conquering Mount Sinai
As the sun dips below the horizon, the adventure begins. The journey to Mount Sinai is not for the faint-hearted, but for those who crave the thrill of the climb and the serenity of a sunrise that paints the sky in hues of gold and pink. The Mount Sinai Hike is a night-time expedition that promises an unforgettable experience. Starting from Sharm el Sheikh, the trek takes you through the rugged terrain of the Sinai Peninsula, guided by the stars and the soft glow of the moon.
The climb is challenging, with a 2,285-meter ascent that tests your endurance and spirit. But the reward is worth every step. As dawn breaks, the summit offers a breathtaking view that stretches across the desert landscape, a moment of pure magic that makes the effort worthwhile. After the descent, the journey continues to the historic St. Catherine’s Monastery, where ancient Christian relics and the legendary Burning Bush await.
“Fantastic trip to Mount Sinai by Suntours - I would like to start by saying the whole trip was organized perfectly. From the communication via what’s app after booking through pickup spot on time - ( we were actually late due to the fact we are getting used to “ Egyptian” time(s) - through transport in a comfortable coach with reclining chairs and enough legroom to accommodate a fairly tall European person (1.90m). We arrived at the foot of Mount Sinai around 01:30 am after having had a few bus-stops along the way. During The hike to the top of Mount Sinai we were accompanied by a very nice and acknowledgable guide called Mahmoud who kept a close eye on our group and managed to get everybody to the top in a safe manner. The hike itself was more strenuous than expected. My girlfriend and myself are fit and active people who workout at least 4 times a week (running/biking, boxing, going to the gym) yet we had to pace ourselves multiple times along the route. In contrary of what we had thought, the approx 6 km hike to where the 750 stairs to the top begin, wasn’t as easy as we expected. Perhaps it was the heat, lack of sleep or the fact we enjoyed a quite laid-back holiday so far, but it was a strenuous 3 hour walk to say the least. Expect poor visibility at night, lots of people taking the same path and camels surpassing you all the time. If you are careful and watch where you place your feet at all time (especially during the last part where you climb the 750 steps to the top) it’s all relatively safe.. but one mis-step could be fatal under these conditions in the middle of the night , where fatigue and the height might play a role in making you more unstable as you might wish for. All that put aside, there’s a couple of stops along the way, to rest, have some food, a coffee or tea. Blankets can be rented at the top to keep you warm or to lay down onto and rest a bit whilst watching the magnificent sunrise on top of Mount Sinai. Around 7am we headed back to the monastery of Saint Catherine where we arrived at 08.45 am. The resulting tour of the monastery and its grounds was a good one but due to the fact we were tired and needed a bit of rest, we weren’t able to take it all in. The experience was enchanted by meeting a Greek-Orthodox priest who lives in the monastery and is present in the church on thursdays as we found out. My girlfriend is Greek and the encounter with the Priest was a beautiful one for the three of us. At around 10:00 am we departed for Sharm el Sheikh to arrive back at our hotel at around 1:30 pm. Altogether this was an amazing experience which we would certainly recommend everyone to do so. Organization by sun tours was great and the communication with its owner ( Mohamed) was very pleasant and correct! Two thumbs up! I think the price of 40$US is more than fair. Be sure to bring extra cash though as you might want to bring souvenirs or give some to the locals 🙏” - Reviewed at 2024-08-30

The St. Catherine Tour is a two-day adventure that begins in Cairo, taking you through the heart of the Sinai desert to this sacred destination.
The monastery, with its towering walls and serene atmosphere, is a place of reflection and wonder. As you explore its grounds, you’ll discover the Transfiguration Church, the well of the prophet Moses, and the legendary Burning Bush. The experience is both humbling and inspiring, a journey that connects you to the ancient world and its enduring mysteries.
“Transformative Journey - Simply the Best! While it may pose significant challenges for those of us less fit, the rewards are absolutely worth it. The assistance and guidance from the Bedouin guides make all the difference.” - Reviewed at 2024-04-13
