Best Grenadian Food Tour! (pun intended) - My family and I are so happy that we chose to do the food tour with Donney Best! It was more than a food tour, but an adventurous excursion that happened to include wonderful meals representing the Grenadian culture. Our first stop was the Enchanted restaurant where we had a local Grenadian breakfast with a panoramic view of the town and bay. Our breakfast consisted of saltfish with local spices, bakes and fresh fruit along with lemon grass tea. Stopping at The House of Chocolate Greneda Museum, was a sweet treat for the chocolate fanatic in me. We learned about how the cacao is processed and its health benefits, while sampling the cacao pods, and the cacao in its final state, ready to be enjoyed as most folks know it. I had the vegan coconut ice cream which was really yummy. My husband had a sorrel drink, whereas my daughter had a passionfruit drink. We also shared a nutmeg flavored cheesecake with a chocolate crumble crust on the bottom. For lunch, Donney took us to Diesrees Tasty treats. I had a cucumber drink. My daughter had a chicken meal that she enjoyed, along with a guava drink. Donney gave so much history of the island, along with cultural insights that only a local would be able to share. He was very attentive to our dietary tastes and made an effort to help my husband find local, native fruit from the various vendors along the route. We stopped at a coconut vendor and drank fresh coconut water and ate coconut pulp. Along the way, we stopped at the beautiful Annidale waterfall and we got to interact with monkeys and fish at a dormant volcano which has a lake. If you’re vegan, vegetarian or pescatarian, give Donney a heads up in advance, because the vendors will make every effort to accommodate. We really enjoyed our food tour with Donney and definitely will go with him the next time we are in Grenada!
