Sainte-Petronille - Ste Pétronille provides a stunning view of the St. Lawrence River, the site of key naval battles during the British Conquest, and in the distance, the promontory of Quebec, which Charles Dickens referred to as the “Gibraltar of America” in his 1842 work “American Notes.” The “New England” architecture of Ste-Pétronille dates back to the 19th century when Anglo-Canadian merchants left the city to escape the cholera epidemic that hit the port of Quebec and Canada in the 1830s.
