A great experience - Booked through Tui for €25 but could have been booked prior on the app with a discount. Picked up from hotel by driver and guide (check this though as some pick ups are from neighbouring hotels). Our guide was Mo (?), he was fab. Knowledgable and entertaining. 30 minute trip from hotel near Santa Maria to Shark Bay. On the way Mo told us some information about the island and about lemon sharks and what to expect from the experience. You need beach shoes to wear to go out into the sea or Croc type shoes are available to hire at the area. Sea bed is very rocky and uneven and there is no other way of getting out far enough into the sea. I’m 5’4 and water was at about waist height for me though you could stay in shallower water but wouldn’t see as many sharks. They swim around your legs, some a foot long, some 3-4 foot long. Amazing! These sharks are young and in theory are sleeping, we didn’t feel in danger at all. Saw some adult sharks but they kept their distance. Got some great videos as the water was so clear. Sea is also very warm. A great experience all in all. **Don’t forget a towel - you’re straight back on the bus after coming out of the sea. There are a few stalls there to buy items but no pressure to.

Best of the island - Unforgettable experience. The best thing to do on the island. At first you may be a little scary but then you get a rush of adrenaline when you see them moving between your feet. In the distance you can also specimens of 2 meters

Great tour, guided by a dedicated biologist - Educational tour about Cabo Verde's nature and about lemon sharks. The baby sharks live in safe shallow water where we could watch them swim around.

Where to go to the seaside in winter - Santa Maria is perfect for a holiday in winter, 27 degrees, even the sea temperature is right for diving in without problems, many little places to have a good dinner in the small pedestrian centre.

Great experience - Booked through tui pick up from hotel took 30 mins to get there. You can hire crocs for 3 euros when you arrive there. Be careful rocks are very slippy someone in our party fell and had to go to hospital. We saw lots of baby lemon sharks and a few fish. Water was nice and warm up to knee deep. There are a couple of stalls there people try to sell you things. Overall a great experience

Fantastic experience - A fantastic experience to see the small sharks swimming around your legs when you stand in the water. You rented shoes (foppatoffel) for 3 euros on the beach where you are dropped off. The stones are sharp and it is a bit difficult to walk on them in the water, so not recommended if you have difficulty walking. We went with the marine biologist Desmond who was very good and nice.
