- Salakos - The tour starts from Salakos, a beautiful agricultural village, located on the foothills of the mountain Profitis Ilias. The third highest mountain of the island awaits for us to conquer it! The hike ascends gradually on its slopes, it is well maintained, not very rocky and suitable also for beginners due to its good quality. Having said that a basic level of physical fitness is required as the first part is a little demanding. Most of the trail is under the shade of ilex trees, pine trees and some olive trees. During the uphill trek, the views are magnificent towards the Aegean Sea, the coastline of Turkey and some nearby islands, like Halki and Tilos. When you have arrived at the top after the pleasant recreational and picnic area, you can admire the famous “Elafos and Elafina” Hotels (male and female deer in Greek), former Italian Hotels built in 1929 and 1932 in keeping with an Alpine Style of architecture. We will also visit the “Villa de Vecci”, which once belonged to the former Italian Governor of Rhodes, and the Byzantine church of Profitis Ilias. After a short break and a snack, we start the descent back to Salakos.

Great hiking experience - Very nice hike to the mountain of Profitis Elias. At the beginning, we go up the slope. The climb is the most strenuous part of the hike. Once at the top there is a great view and a small snack break. Up on the plateau you walk past former houses of Italian occupiers, Mussolini's Villa and you visit a historic hotel which is still in use. Along the way you will also encounter many goats. A final stop is made at a small chapel from which you have a great view of the sea and the countryside. The food was really delicious. The tour guide was very nice and provided entertainment. The hike in general is relatively easy. Hiking boots are recommended.

A must see experience!! - Tsampikos and Manolis were great guides as we hiked to see the beautiful and magnificent sunset.
With a lot of historical nuggets and traditional food (Even got to taste local homemade pie and wine) it was noe of the highlights of our trip.

Amazing hike with a beautiful view. - It was an amazing trip. The views were lovely and our guide was very nice.
On this tour it was just me and my friend. She really took the time and adjusted the pace to us and she made sure we were fine.
When you are not used to walk up hills / mountains it is still good to do this hike.
And the buildings on top are very nice as well.
They arranged it all very well and I will definitely do another trip with them.
