• Stonehenge - Stonehenge is a prehistoric megalithic structure located on Salisbury Plain in Wiltshire, England, about two miles (3 km) west of Amesbury. It features an outer ring of vertical sarsen standing stones, each approximately 13 feet (4.0 m) tall, seven feet (2.1 m) wide, and weighing around 25 tons, topped by connecting horizontal lintel stones held in place with mortise and tenon joints, a unique feature among contemporary monuments. Inside this ring is a circle of smaller bluestones. Within these are free-standing trilithons, consisting of two larger vertical sarsens joined by a single lintel. The entire monument, now in ruins, is aligned with the sunrise on the summer solstice and the sunset on the winter solstice. The stones are set within earthworks in the midst of the densest complex of Neolithic and Bronze Age monuments in England, including several hundred tumuli (burial mounds).

The cathedral is regarded as the epitome of Early English Gothic design. Constructed over a relatively short span of 38 years, from 1220 to 1258, it possesses a unity and coherence that is rare among medieval English cathedrals. The tower and spire, completed by 1330, stand at 404 feet (123 m) and represent the tallest church spire in England.
