Perfect, action packed day full of my favourite things! - A day of two perfect halves!
Firstly I want to say thank you to Leopold, our knowledgeable and hugely entertaining guide. It felt like a private tour as there were only 6 of us in total! Leo, or the Old fox 😜, lead us to Berchtesgaden Salt Mine via a superb stop to view Kehlsteinhaus, high above Berchtesgaden. The visit to the Salt mine was both interesting and enjoyable. The visit consisted of a weird train-like ride into the mine, two crazy slides to reach further into the depth of the Alps and a magical boat ride as well as lots of information on the workings of the mine over the past 500 years. We also got to spend an hour in Berchtesgaden which was my husband’s idea of heaven as he has researched lots of the history of this town. We thoroughly enjoyed our morning and would definitely recommend a visit.
After a brief pit stop, we then headed on the second part of our day- the Sound of Music tour. The coach was full and the atmosphere was amazing- genuine excitement and love for the Sound of Music. I felt quite emotional as the bus set off and I have to say the tour far exceeded my expectations. Mitch was our guide for this tour and he had a genuine charisma and shared his excellent knowledge with confidence and humour. It was interesting to learn not only of the history of the Sound of Music film but also the real life events of Maria Von Trapp. I loved all the stops- and it was planned to perfection. As we travelled out to the countryside, and with the soundtrack playing in synch, my smile widened and my heart was singing!!! Thank you Mitch and not forgetting Mickey, ( you’re so fine! 😜) for a magical afternoon.
The tour is not cheap but it was worth every penny!

Awesome experience - As a huge Sound of Music fan, traveling to Salzburg and seeing the sites where the movie was filmed has been a bucket list item for me. The Original Sound of Music Tour did not disappoint. The credit for this exceptional experience goes to our tour guide (I believe his name was Peter). I loved his humor in his descriptions and especially in his behind the scenes stories. I will never forget his leading us in singing on the bus, especially his acting out of Do, Re, Mi. He was fantastic, and I feel very fortunate he was our guide. In a perfect world, we would have done the Sound of Music tour in the morning while the sun was out, and the Salt Mines tour in the afternoon when it was raining!

Salt mine was great, but a little let down with the sound of music part - The Salt mine was our favorite part of the tour. So fun to go down there and great to see. We also loved the lunch stop. Super cute town with amazing goulash!
The sound of music part was okay… I get that there’s a lot we can’t see, but it was a little disappointing where so many of the sites we had to view from across the lake or miles away and we weren’t allowed to go up there. Mondsee was great to see the Church and have some Strudel. We also had some folks on the bus who would not stop talking and it was hard to hear, David (our guide). He was really great in calling them out, but it didn’t totally work on this particular family of 6 behind us…. Our guide, David, and driver, Ferdinand, were both fantastic and really into the experience. They gave it their all which made it more special.

Good tour, especially if you are a fan of Sound of Music - We joined the two half-day tours in early June 2024. The tour at the Salt Mines was interesting, though we got trapped in the elevator for some time at the end of the guided tour :p
For the "Original Sound of Music Tour", the tour guide was funny and informative, telling us stories about the making of the movie, leading us to sing the songs of the movie, etc. If you are a fan of the movie, you'll definitely love this tour. If you are not so familiar with the movie, better watch it again before joining the tour :p

One excellent and one not good guide - We had an excellent guide for our Sound of Music tour which was enjoyable and relaxing. Unfortunately, we had a different guide who drove us in a van to the salt mine. The second guide spent a lot of time spouting his political views and made derogatory comments about immigrants. He was not particularly friendly to all of the tour passengers. The salt mine tour was fun but the trip was not.

Ok but not that ok - The guide elizabeth was super knowledgeable but the ttain ride was a cheap ride. I wouldn’t mind paying more foe a comfortable ride with another train than the train we were booked at
