Salt Mines Bus Tour - A very interesting look into the history and workings of the salt mines outside Salzburg. With a knowledgeable tour guide and fearless driver, there was plenty of beautiful scenery and little surprises a long the way. There was a 1 hour stop off in Berchtesgaden for food or a quick shop.

Well worth it - 10/10 goes to our amazing tour guide. The context and history he provided were very appreciated, but most valued was his recommendation for the historic Biergarten to visit in town. My husband is a WW2 history nerd and he completely geeked out by enjoying a bier at the local watering hole! The salt mines were also a blast and my son said his favorite part of our trip was the salt mine because of the train and slides.

Fun trip to the Salt Mines - This is my third time in the mine and, as always, the visit was fun. The uniforms, the slides, and the ride on the lake are always delightful. My only concern was that while the English speaking group received a short message about each area, the guide, in German went on with many more details for a much longer period of time. As we could partially understand what he was saying, it would have been nice if he had translated the whole speech into English as well. Other than that, it was wonderful and perfect for all ages!

We would recommend this tour. - We enjoyed the salt tour itself. It was fun and very interesting. However, we felt rushed to get changed into the miners jumpsuit. Again, the women's restroom had line & many of us didn't get our chance to go. After the tour, we were expecting time in the gift store. We were given 10 minutes before we had to get back on the bus. We then stopped in Berchtesgaden for 30 minutes but they didn't sell anything unique to the salt mine. We would do this tour again knowing if we want to buy salt gifts to hurry. P.S. I do wish the Salt mine sold post cards since pictures are not allowed.

We had a wonderful tour... - We had a wonderful tour today! Our driver Johane was terrific. He explained sites on the route, stopped for photo opportunities, and provided a wealth of knowledge. The tour at the salt mine was informative and fun. It would have been better if the young man who gave our tour at the salt mine had chosen to speak some English. We were told he spoke English. We were given electronic devices that explained everything in English, but felt like we missed the jokes and interactions the other tourist received in German. He only told us the number to push on our device and made no other attempt To communicate with us. There were several people who did not speak German on the tour. I would recommend the tour and explain to the salt mine operator to please give you a guide at the salt mine that speaks English and will communicate with you in English on your tour.

Salt Mine Tour - The underwater ground boat ride was amazing part of the tour. It was a great experience going underground to see how the salt was mined. The tour was well organised and ran very well.

fair to mediocre - A trip that could easily been achieved via public transport at ones on pace. Being within a tour group did not value add

The Mine is like the caves in the movie DUNE - We didn’t really skip the lines! We had to wait… the mine itself is worth seeing. Do not count on shipping at the mine shop because the driver will not wait for you. They just drive off without you. It happened to us. We were in the shop literally 10 mins.

Poor trip - The day I joined this tour there was a small mini-van in service. It was overcrowded and air conditioning barely worked, so the driving itself was far less than ideal, with 34°C outside and nine people without air conditioning. Along the way to the mine, we did not stop in the most scenic places, but rather in other places related to the 20th century history of Germany (WW II). Explanation / comments from the driver and tour guide were just focused on the funny or political side of what we were seeing. Once we arrived at the mine, I was left there by myself (I was the only person visiting the mine, they mixed two different tours just to fill-up the minivan). As soon as I exited from the mine, the driver/guide was already there waiting for me, so I did not have any time to visit the mine shop. The only positive part of the trip was the last stop - we had 50 minutes free time in the village of Berchtesgaden. This review only relates to the trip part - I'm reviewing the visit to the salt mine and Berchtesgaden separately.
