Beautiful Views! - Hallstatt is beautiful. I’m glad I got to see it, though it probably isn’t somewhere I’d rush back to. The time we had there was plenty, especially since it was the off season (mid November) and many things were closed. Even though it was the off season there were several people visiting though so I can only imagine how crowded it gets during the peak times. It has been ages since I’ve seen Sound of Music and everyone in my group remembered different bits. We all enjoyed it though. Our guide Jose made it more wonderful with his knowledge and interjections and musical timing. If I were to do it all over I would still do both tours but not combine them. There is a bit of time on the bus or in the van for Sound of Music and parts of it you’re seeing twice. Both tours are lovely and would be also as a stand alone option.

Better in full daylight - Hallstad morning (1pm return) - Guide, Max & driver Evo were great! Sound of Music 1-6pm, guide David & driver Evo. It is an expensive day & I don't feel I got my moneys worth due to darkness. These w trips need to be split into 2 separate days in the fall. It is not explained that this daytrip is in 2 parts, returning to Salzburg for 1/2hr then getting back on the same bus with Evo but guide David (also very good guide). We should be advised to BRING lunch as there is nowhere at the bus stop between trips for a quick take-away. Also, timing of stops thru the day to get multiple snacks instead of bringing lunch should be communicated. Lastly, this 2 part tour shouldn't be done when darkness has fallen. The visit to Mundsee & Mirabel garden cannot be appreciated at dusk/dark. Luckily I did a walking tour the day before & had already toured Mirabel gardens in daylight.

Hallstät and Sound of Music combo tour - Hallstät was absolutely amazing and definitely a must see. Note it is a bit of a drive out and when you get to the town you are pretty much left on your own to get explore. Sound of Music Tour was disappointing. Had I known that most of the sites are only seen from a distance I could have gone to see it myself. This should be mentioned that you cannot go into the homes, convent ect and that it is merely drive by’s. Most of the hype around a created in the bus with the sound track music playing.

Double tour option - Very informative and great tour guide. The two tours, though, have a bit of overlap. Would be nice to know that ahead of time or switch buses at Hallstatt for the Sound of music tour on the way back.

Hallstat: Beautiful! Sound of Music: for the passionate followers only. - It's difficult to rate this tour. It's actually a great tour. The guides were professional and fantastic. However, you have to be the right audience to love it. First, it is actually 2 separately operated tours - Started with the morning half day Hallstatt tour and returned to the starting bus stop in Salzburg. Then hopped on the different afternoon half day sound of music tour followed immediately. Due to this operation, there's only 15 minutes in between to hop to the next bus. No one told me about the right timing. You have to be aware of this and plan your time right to grab a quick bite at Hallstatt or go hungry the whole day. Sound of music tour was very entertaining and the guide was definitely very devoted in his role singing and acting. This tour is meant for passionate followers of the movie, with fun facts and SIGN ALONG. I like the movie but not that extreme into it, which can be awkward to be on this tour. This is my problem. Know your expectations before signing up. Also, all stops were just stopping and looking from the outside of the building. The church was the only stop that guests could go inside. I guess that's where all the singing creating fun vibes to compensate for the lack of activities at each site. This is not a small group tour at all. On my day of tour, there were 2 big coaches for each half day tour. That's 80+ guests for each half day tour. With a tour size like this, I feel the pricing is a little too high.
