• Khaft Kul - The journey to the lowest lake, Nezhigon, at an altitude of 1,640 meters, is mesmerizing. Named after the Tajik word for “eyelashes,” the reason behind its name remains unclear. Nezhigon is famous for its vibrant colors, which change with the light and seasons, appearing turquoise, blue, or even purple.
• Khaftkul Valley - Soya Lake, named after the Tajik word for “shadow,” is nestled between high cliffs that keep it shaded most of the day. Like Nezhigon, Soya Lake’s water changes color based on the weather and time of day.
• Khaftkul Valley - Gushor, the third lake, is 400 meters from Soya. A turbulent stream connects the two lakes. All three lakes are called “watchful.” Gushor Lake is surrounded by steep cliffs and was once home to poisonous snakes, which is how it got its name.
• Khaftkul Valley - Nofin, the fourth lake, is long and narrow, stretching over 2.5 kilometers in length but only about 200 meters wide. “Nofin” means “umbilical cord,” as it is the central lake among the seven and resembles an umbilical cord. Local legends add to its mystique. Enjoy a lunch break by the lake before continuing.
• Khaftkul Valley - Khurdak, meaning “baby,” is the smallest of the Seven Lakes. It is 1.5 kilometers from Nofin Lake, and along the way, you can see the village of Padrut.
• Khaftkul Valley - Lake Marguzor is the largest and possibly the most beautiful of the Seven Lakes. The vast blue water against the majestic mountains creates a breathtaking scene. Petroglyphs from primitive people have been found on its shore, and semiprecious stones were mined here in the Middle Ages. Today, a small village is located at the southern end of the lake, with houses scattered on the slopes. Local legends and fairytales add to its charm.
• Seventh of the seven lakes (Haft-Kul) - Hazorchashma, the seventh and highest lake, is at an altitude of about 2,400 meters. “Hazorchashma” means “thousand springs,” as it is fed by two rivers and numerous streams and springs. Hazorchashma marks the end of the Shing River gorge, beyond which there are no more settlements, only the wildlife of the Fan Mountains.
