Fantastic historic tour with wonderful guide! - We did an amazing day tour to Shahrisabz with Silk Road Travellers and later a transfer from our Hotel Silver Rows Samarkand onto our Tashkent hotel…..both very good experiences. If the train doesn't fit your plans, it is easier to be transferred door to door. From the moment I made contact with Fayzullo, he was responsive and helpful in organising what we wanted for a fair price. If you are interested in Uzbek history, then Shahrizabz, the birthplace of Amir Timur is a must visit….if you have the time. It’s a pleasant drive through the countryside with amazing historical buildings (Ak Saray Palace, Dor ut-Tilovato and the Dor-Us Siyadat Complex) all worth a visit and not as overrun with tourists as in Samarkand. We also visited the crypt which was built for Timur, as our fantastic driver/guide Olimjon informed us, he died suddenly (not in a fierce battle as is often suggested, but of natural causes). But instead of being interned here, his final resting place is in the aptly named Gur-e-Amir Mausoleum back in Samarkand. This is one of the best tours we have done, highly recommend and suggest you ask for Jon to be your guide/driver. He was a safe driver. excellent company, as well as very knowledgeable and interesting.
