Seoul ✈ - Jejudo Island

Yongduam Rock - Located north of Jeju City, Yongduam was formed by strong winds and waves over thousands of years. There are many legends about its origin. One story tells of a dragon stealing jade from Mt. Halla, only to be shot down by the mountain deity. The dragon’s body sank into the ocean, and its head froze while looking at the sky. Another tale speaks of a white horse aspiring to become a dragon, but it was caught by a soldier and turned into rock.

From Yongduam, visitors can watch Haenyeo women divers collecting seafood. Nearby, there are various cafes, bars, and restaurants. The coastal road between Aewol-eup and Yongduam is popular among couples. Cafes and seafood restaurants have sprung up over the past five years, creating a charming café village.

Enjoy a cup of coffee at a village café and drive along the scenic coastal lines to encounter Iho Beach, where black rocks contrast with the emerald-blue ocean, Hagwi Coast, and Aewol Port. Aewol Port is home to small seafood restaurants and fishing boats, adding to the coastal drive’s charm. Further from the port is Hyeopjae Beach, one of Jeju Island’s most popular beaches, known for its deep royal-blue sea and splendid white sand year-round.

Jejudo Island

Sangumburi Crater - Sangumburi (산굼부리) is a crater with a circumference of over 2 km and is designated as a Natural Monument. Located on the southeast side of Jeju-si, it is a flat crater about 650 meters wide, 100 meters deep, and 2,070 meters in circumference. From above, it resembles a man-made circular stadium. The crater hosts a variety of plant life, including red-thorn trees, magnolia trees, and rare winter strawberries on the north side, and evergreens, maples, and mountain strawberry trees on the south side. The diverse flora attracts researchers.

Ilchul Land - A beautiful theme park featuring a flower garden, including a Bonsai Garden.

Seongsan Ilchulbong - Seongsan Ilchulbong Peak emerged from a volcanic eruption over 100,000 years ago. Located on the eastern end of Jejudo Island, it has a large crater at the top, about 600m in diameter and 90m high. The 99 sharp rocks surrounding the crater make it look like a gigantic crown. The southeast and north sides are cliffs, while the northwest side is a grassy hill connected to Seongsan Village. The ridge is ideal for walks and horse riding.

The sunrise from the crater is magnificent. In spring, the peak is surrounded by bright yellow canola flowers, creating a breathtaking sight.

Jeju Haenyeo Museum - Haenyeo are female divers who collect shellfish and seaweed without using underwater diving equipment. They carry only goggles, a round tube for balance, and a basket for their collections. These women are found in Jeju-do, Korea, Japan, and Russia.

The Jeju Haenyeo Museum showcases the unique activities and culture of Jejudo’s haenyeo. Exhibition Hall 1, titled “Haenyeo Diver’s Life,” features a traditional haenyeo’s home and meals, along with various diving utensils. Exhibition Hall 2 displays haenyeo goggles, fishing spheres, traditional working outfits, and historical records. Exhibition Hall 3, themed “The Sea,” presents the fishing industry’s culture, including traditional fishnets, fishing equipment, ship models, and salt farm models.

The museum also exhibits photos of haenyeo divers and their activities, providing an accurate picture of their lives. An observatory offers a view of the Hado-ri area, and the garden features various sculptures and a resting area. The first-floor lobby has a souvenir shop with haenyeo-related items.

Jeju Folklore & Natural Museum - This museum exhibits folklore remains and natural historical materials of Jeju-do, excavated and displayed since 1984.

The museum has four exhibition halls: the Natural History Hall, Folklore Exhibition HallⅠ, Folklore Exhibition HallⅡ, and the Outdoor Exhibition.

The Natural History Exhibition Hall displays marine life, soil and rocks, and Jeju’s fauna and flora in a three-dimensional way, offering a better understanding of Jeju’s unique nature and culture. It includes an Ecology Hall of Marine Life, a Soil and Rock Exhibition Hall, and a Land Ecosystem Hall.

Folklore Exhibition Hall I showcases 2,381 items, illustrating the transformation in Jeju-do Island’s lifestyle and helping visitors understand the ancient lifestyle through traditional housing architecture, rites of passage, and regional food specialties.

Folklore Exhibition HallⅡ features diving gear used by Haenyeo and farming tools from Jeju-do. The outdoor exhibition includes 100 items such as traditional living tools, ritual materials, and stone structures made from Jeju’s volcanic rock.

Mysterious Road (Dokkaebi Road) - The Mysterious Road on Jeju Island is known for the strange movement of objects, which appear to roll uphill instead of down. This optical illusion is due to the seemingly high surroundings, making a slight downhill slope appear uphill.

Jejudo Island ✈- Busan, Hub of Asia

Yongdusan Park - Yongdusan Mountain (49m) in downtown Busan is one of Busan’s three famous mountains. Originally called Songhyeonsan Mountain, it was renamed Yongdusan Mountain because its peak resembles a dragon’s head (yongdu), believed to protect the area from foreign invaders.

The mountain once had shrines built by the Japanese, but now it hosts various monuments, including Cheokhwabi Monument, Chunghontap Pagoda, 4.19 Revolution Monument, a statue of Admiral Yi Sun-shin, and Busan Tower. During the Korean War, refugees built houses on the mountain, but these neighborhoods were burned down twice. Efforts to replant trees have transformed the mountain into a beautiful park, offering a stunning view of Busan Port and the surrounding scenery, especially at night from Busan Tower.

Busan Tower - Standing 69 m above sea level at a height of 120 m, Busan Tower is a symbol of Busan. The top of the tower is modeled after the baldaquin of Dabotap Pagoda in Bulguksa Temple, Gyeongju.

Loved by both locals and tourists, the tower offers a stunning night view and features attractions such as the Statue of Admiral Yi Sun-sin, the Bell of the Citizens, a flower clock, and a bust of the independence activist Baeksan An Hee-je.

Jagalchi Market - Located on the shoreside road in Busan’s Jung-gu, Jagalchi Market is Korea’s largest seafood market, selling both live and dried fish. After the Korean War, it became a prominent fish market. Most vendors are women, known as Jagalchi Ajumma, meaning middle-aged or married women in Korean.

The market is famous throughout the country, and visitors can eat fresh raw fish right at the market. Women still sell mackerel, sea squirts, and whale meat on wooden boxes along the road and shore.

Every October, the Jagalchi Cultural Tourism Festival is held. The market is easily accessible by subway, offering a glimpse into the lifestyle of Busan locals.

Busan-Jeonju, Walk back in time

Jeonju - The landmark of Korean culture.

Hanji Museum - As Korea’s first museum specializing in paper, it has a collection of 3,000 artifacts and documents the history and superiority of Hanji (Korean paper). Visitors can also experience making Korean paper with wooden tools and take it home.

Jeonju Hanok Village - The largest Korean village with various traditional cultural facilities in the downtown area.

Gyeonggijeon Shrine - The symbol of Jeonju’s Korean-style village. Gyeonggijeon is especially beautiful in autumn. Historical dramas and movies often use the surrounding landscape as a backdrop.

Cookin’ NANTA (Myeongdong) - The longest-running show in Korean history. The musical debuted internationally at the 1999 Edinburgh Festival Fringe, where it won an award for best performance. It has since been staged in 57 countries worldwide and opened Off-Broadway in New York City.

Korean Folk Village - Located in Yongin city, visitors can see how people lived during the Joseon era. The village features reproduced farmhouses, commoner’s houses, government offices, schools, marketplaces, and noble’s houses (Yangban), making it a great place to learn about Korean history.

Yangsu-ri Strawberry Farm Experience - Pick strawberries at the farm, enjoy eating them, and take home 2kg of strawberries.

Seoraksan National Park - Known for its breathtaking views, the park is home to 2,000 animal species and over 1,400 rare plant species. UNESCO designated it a Biosphere Preservation District in 1982, making it Korea’s most famous national park. The best time to visit is autumn when the park is at its most beautiful.

Gwongeumseong Fortress - Take a cable car to Gwongeumseong Castle and enjoy a panoramic view of the mountain.

Sinheungsa Temple - Founded by Buddhist monk Jajang during Queen Jindeok of the Silla dynasty’s reign, it was originally named Hyangseongsa Temple. After being destroyed by fire several times, it was rebuilt at its current location during King Injo of the Joseon dynasty’s reign.

Sinheungsa Temple - On the path to Sinheungsa, there is a great bronze statue over 10 meters high. Just beyond the statue, on a granite terrace, is a bridge called Hyeonsugyo, newly built for crossing the ravine.
