Wonderful morning at the Equator - My boyfriend and I took this half day tour on the last day of our 7 day stay in Quito. We were lucky enough to have the same guide, Pablo, who had given us our first tour of the Centro Historico. Pablo picked us up right on time from our hotel and we drove about 30 minutes north to our first stop, which was the Intiñan Museum. We took a guided tour ($4 each) that outlined the primary Andean indigenous cultures of Ecuador. The museum also features the "real" equator line calculated with GPS along with several demonstrations that supposedly illustrate the physical properties of the equator. Whether you believe the experiments are "real" or not, it's a fun experience! We drove to the Equator Monument a few hundred meters away for a photo op., but ultimately elected not to pay the entrance fee to climb the tower because we were worn out from all our traveling and hungry for lunch. Pablo kindly accommodated our request. Instead we headed to a nearby restaurant called Fiambre's just a few minutes down the road, which serves roasted guinea pig- an Andean delicacy that my boyfriend had been wanting to try since arriving in Quito a week earlier. Andrew Zimmern, of the Travel Channel famously ate roasted guinea pig at this same restaurant for an episode of his television show Bizarre Foods, which is advertised on a billboard outside. Pablo advised us on our lunch order and ate with us. 1/2 guinea pig was plenty for us; in my polite opinion it's an acquired taste, but I was glad tried it, and the rest of the items we ordered were very tasty. I do think my boyfriend liked it better than I did. We stopped on our way out for a photo op. then made our way back to Quito. In all, the excursion lasted from about 10am-2pm, a very enjoyable morning. Thanks again!

8 of us arranged for a private tour... -
8 of us arranged for a private tour when to make the most of our one day to spend in Quito. Pablo was wonderful! To start, he was patient with our tardiness starting the day we'd all gotten in well after midnight. Then, he was so knowledgeable about everything, from history and culture to Ecuador as a country to restaurant recommendations. He spent extra time with us, ensuring we had a great lunch experience and walk in the old town. This was a perfect introduction to Ecuador.
