Great experience - I went with my boyfriend and It was amazing ! It’s kind of built around construction. I like there were food areas throughout the zoo park. Parking could be better so we don’t have to walk as far.

Zoo family memories - My grandchildren had a fantastic time at the San Antonio Zoo. They loved interacting with some of the animals and taking great pictures in front of the exhibits and sculptures. It was a wonderful day at the zoo. I also appreciate the military discount for my family of four, which made the pricing very affordable for a fun day together.

Bummer - Most of the animals were either sleep or not visible in their habitat. Better experience for the kids.

Fun but pricey. - I’ll say first off that it was enjoyable, just not the same as it was the last time we were here 30 years ago. The weather was beautiful sunny and 60s so we expected to see more animals out but in our experience about half of the outdoor containments were empty. No elephants, polar bears, wolves or gorillas. It used to be a more personal experience but now we felt pretty distant from most of the animals. Note-the crocodile IS real but he doesn’t move! 😂. Lots of construction going on, in fact we bypassed some viewing areas like the flying fox bats because we didn’t know how to get in there. I seem to remember they used to have a butterfly area but we didn’t see it this time. Little kids everywhere and all appeared to be having a blast! Overall it was good but not worth the $65 for two senior priced tickets.

Need more animals at the zoo - Zoo was clean and we enjoyed it. Prices for anything and everything were way too high! Also very disappointing that on such a beautiful day many of the animal areas were empty , ( no animals to be seen.) no giraffes, zebras, no gorillas etc.. bummer. Won’t go again.

Average at best and that's being generous. - Very disappointed. Priced too high for what you get to see. The snacks and beverages were extremely expensive. Who ever heard of paying $7,99 for a pretzel with cheese? Not very handicap helpful nor senior citizen friendly. Example trying to get up to see the Giraffe Exhibit was all uphill and as a 79-year-old pushing a wheelchair it was extremely difficult. The viewing windows don't look like they've been cleaned for a very long time. As a photographer hoping to get some good shots the stains and dirt on the glass prohibited it. Some animals looked a little under fed. One of the Okapi's was injured with a large portion of its skin hanging and the other was trying to bite it off. No zoo attendant in the area to take care of it, either.

Very disappointing. Too much closed off. - We were so disappointed in this zoo. Even with another zoo membership it was expensive. You walk from the parking garage a ways to the entrance. But the school bus drop off is before the main entrance. So many kids and the adults did nothing to keep them to one side of the walkway so others could walk by. We ended up walking in the street. There must have been over 20 school busses. You were just about walking on kids. The pool for the hippos was so dirty as was the glass to look through. All the kids were very loud. A big section was closed for construction of a new restaurant and gorilla exhibit. A lot of animals were I'm old outdated exhibits. So sad. We went to leave and there were NO signs showing the way out! My wife had to stop some construction men to find the exit. There was hardly any zoo employee or volunteers around to help anyone. This was our last trip here.

Overpriced money grab—when did the zoo turn into SeaWorld? - I've been going to this zoo for 20 years, but now it costs nearly $200 for a family of three to visit. It feels like the zoo is more focused on private parties and selling “private experiences” or naming rights for animals than on the everyday visitor. Today, I learned that the new director is Tim Morrow, the former CEO of the local SeaWorld. That explains a lot. The whole experience is just disappointing. Tickets are $32 each, with countless extra fees. If you want to eat there, good luck—$5 for an 8 oz soda, $16 for a burger, and $11 for popcorn. It's beyond ridiculous. If you’re hoping to see a gorilla or an elephant, you’re out of luck. Somehow, this zoo doesn’t even have an elephant anymore. But, of course, they have a massive enclosure for giraffes—probably because some big donor favors them. It’s like they don’t care about a balanced animal collection; it’s all about the money. This used to be a place where you could see and even interact with animals like elephants. Now, you have to pay extra to get close to anything. It feels like every little thing has a price tag attached. I don’t know if this is a city park or a private park, but if any public funding is involved, we should all be outraged. Tim Morrow has turned this zoo into something unrecognizable for the average visitor. The staff seems poorly trained and even rude at times, which is likely due to poor management—who, by the way, are nowhere to be found. The animals look sad, the grounds are overgrown, and at these prices, you’d think they’d take better care of the place. I wanted to like this zoo, but spending $200 for a family of three for maybe 2.5 hours of entertainment? Disney is cheaper per hour. Shame on the zoo, shame on CEO Tim Morrow, shame on the board of directors, and shame on all the sponsors who allow the animals to be treated this way. I’m not sure who’s treated worse—the locals or the animals.
