Upon arrival in Palenque we will have a talk about its history and culture at the home of our host and local guide. And a summary of the visits that will be made during the guided tour.

Palenque, the first free town on the American continent since 1713, is a focal point. You’ll have the opportunity to visit the residences of influential community members, engage with them, and hear firsthand accounts of their living history. A music and dance performance, in which you also play a role, will offer a glimpse into the local cultural practices. You’ll cap off the experience with a taste of Palenque cuisine. The community earned a UNESCO designation in 2005 as an Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity, thanks to their preservation of African traditions such as the Palenquera language, religious rituals, traditional medicine, music, and dance.
