Lake Arenal by boat tour - Our tour was a short easy walk through the peninsula section of the national park where we saw various birds and monkeys. We were supposed to be able to climb the observation tower, however it was roped off and we were not able to climb it. At the end of the hike we got on a boat for a private tour of Lake Arenal. The boat ride was spectacular. The driver and guide were able to spot lots of different birds, iguanas in the trees, caimans in the water and a boa constrictor in a tree. We were able to get some great photos of all the critters! At the end of the boat ride we were driven to a small family restaurant where we had some snacks and a drink. The food was delicious and it was a really nice opportunity to talk to the guide and driver. ( We invited them to sit with us at the restaurant, instead of sitting by themselves). I tried agua dulce which is a drink made from sugar cane that they like to drink…it was way too sweet for me, but I am glad I tried it. Lake Arenal has some interesting history. It was fascinating to learn about the area.

Very good & Prompt Response/ Updates - We worked with Erick in Dec 2023 for family of 4. We gave Erick our day by day tour preferences for 10 days and Erick organized all tours and included hot springs/ sunset tour for days when we are free. We changed tours by a day or two after we are in CR and was accommodated as requested. Erick was prompt and tracked all tours to our satisfaction. Highly recommend for a pleasant and wonderful experience

Perfect morning excursion - We had a great experience taking the boat tour. The views were beautiful and it was interesting learning about the dam and how it produces a significant amount of the country's electricity. Our captain was very nice and took pictures of us so that we could all be in the same photo. He also pointed out the animals and told us about the fish and the birds.

Short boat ride on lake Arenal - We did a 1 hour boat ride on lake Arenal. The captain mostly just took us to a spot where we could see the volcano and then he talked to us for about 10 minutes and then took us back. Didn't really try to show us any animals on the shore - not sure if there are any. It was OK but I don't think it's worth $120. No food or drinks on the boat.

Bad experience - The boat tour was not good. It was raining and we requested to delay it, they denied. We didn't see anything. Rico was originally our captain, he showed up and then asked another person to be our captain. Our new captain was a lady, she was nice but she probably did not have the authority to change the tour. We basically sat inside the boat during heavy rain. It was completely a disaster.
