Our experience: Don Juan - Coffee and Chocolate Tour, will take you to know the entire Coffee process, from the seed to the delicious cup of coffee.
Once the coffee tour is finished, we will start with the sweetest part of the tour, the delicious chocolate. Like coffee, we will talk about the entire Chocolate process, from the seed to the delicious chocolate bar and we will end up selecting some members of the group to grind the cacao beans and make their own chocolate bar. Once finished you will have the opportunity to taste several types of chocolate such as Dark Chocolate, Milk Chocolate and White Chocolate.
One of our main features is the infrastructure we have, since the Arenal Area is well known for having a very changing climate, it goes from being very sunny and humid to heavy rains, even with a electric storms on some occasions, that is why that 100% of our trails are protected and made of cement, which will allow to enjoy the tour on sunny or rainy days. Very Cool Night Tour!! - I really loved this tour!! I can’t remember the guides name but he was extremely knowledgeable about the animals and forest!! He kept us entertained and made it a really fun experience. I loved that the trails were covered especially since it was pouring during my visit! We saw a sloth and her baby right at the beginning, and the guide showed us many frogs. We made our own chocolate which was super fun. They offered free coffee and tea which was an added bonus!

Outstanding and Memorable Experience - Apolgies in advance if I have the wrong name but I'm 90% sure our knowledgeable and excellent guide was "Alex." Our tour was in the afternoon (not night), although I suspect the night tour is just as good. The experience was divided into two parts -- coffee, followed by chocolate -- each with a hands-on agricultrual walk followed by a practical demonstration (and most important: tasting). The whole experience took about 2 hours, not including the drive, which obviously depends on where your hotel is located. Ours (Nayara Springs) was roughly 10 minutes away. TIPS and SUGGESTIONS: (1) the coffee plants rely on mosquito action for fertilization. Consequently, it's best to wear long pants OR plan to apply lots of bug spray. (2) The gift shop is one of the best we encountered during our whole trip, including the shops in La Fortuna. (3) Come prepared with binoculars and cameras for wildlife. By far, our best sloth encounter (mother and baby) occurred here.

Baby sloth - I really enjoyed this tour, Alex our guide was excellent and it was really impressive as to how he could find the various small creatures at night. We saw four different types of frogs (quite a few red eyes tree frogs) a banana spider, bats and the highlight a baby and its mother sloths. We also learned about the cacao growing and preparation process and after we had walked around the part of the property we got to make our own chocolate bars (had at least 10 different ingredients we could add to the chocolate. Definitely worth a visit if you like chocolate and want to see some nocturnal night life

Terrific Family Fun! - Tour was excellent! I was so glad that we went. Both the chocolate part and the animal part were terrific family fun! We got a LOT of photos including a mom sloth and her baby. Besides the recommended bug spray, consider bringing a small fan as you will be out in the humid jungle for a bit and it gets hot!

Beautiful tour! - This tour ended up being even cooler than I had hoped! Our guide, Didier (sorry if I spelled that wrong) was super knowledge both about the chocolate-making process, but also about the wildlife around the farm. In particular, he was an expert on frogs, and helped us find and get pictures of all three of the most iconic rainforest frogs in the area (including some great shots of the green/red-eyed frog in the photo for this tour :) ). We got to see a sleeping hummingbird, as well, which was very cool! Perhaps the wildest part of our tour was when a mama sloth was hanging out in the trees of the farm with a baby on her belly - absolutely magical experience that the staff did a great job managing so that the sloth wasn't disturbed (the respect for the wildlife was clear and built into everything they do). The chocolate-making was also super fun! We got to walk through the process and end up with two chocolate bars each to take home with us. (And even more chocolate and coffee once we hit the wonderful gift shop.) All in all, a magical night!

Unforgettable - What an experience! Our guide was knowlegable, fun and patient. Just as excited to find animals as much as us. We enjoyed seeing the chocolate making process from fruit to molding it with our own hands. He helped us take video/pictures thru his telescope of the animals. Got to a sloth, bats, frogs, snake, lightning bug and others. Would highly recommend this.
