- Mission Dolores Park - Just two blocks away is Mission Dolores Park, once a Jewish Cemetery and now one of San Francisco’s most popular and crowded parks. During the spring and summer, the grass is lined with blankets as locals gather for community and sports. As we move through the park, we’ll pass Father Hidalgo’s statue and make our way to the “Golden Fire Hydrant” at Church St. & 20th, the only functioning hydrant during the 1906 earthquake and fire.
- Mission District - Leaving Mission Dolores Park, we’ll explore the surrounding neighborhoods, known for their extraordinary street art. You’ll discover hidden gems within the Mission, including the Mission Community Pool, Bnai David’s Synagogue, and the Women’s Building, which features one of San Francisco’s most famous murals. Our next stop is Café de Olla in the heart of the Mission, where everything is made from scratch, honoring Oaxacan cuisine. You’ll be tempted to try typical Mexican dishes like Quesadillas, Tamales, Tlayudas, and Tortillas, along with beverages such as Agua Fresca and Ice Caffe de Olla. Don’t miss the “Chapulines”!
- Mission Street - After a delicious meal, we’ll continue our exploration of Mission Street, a vibrant and bustling community filled with traditional shops and old theaters. The lively pace of daily commerce is exciting, and the unique architecture is everywhere you look. We’ll examine some of the most popular Victorian-style homes on Lexington St. & San Carlos St., showcasing different architectural styles and cultures within just a few blocks.
- Balmy Alley Murals - Finally, we’ll arrive at 24th Street, connecting Mission Street with Potrero Street. This 8-block stretch offers many tempting choices, from tacos at La Taqueria to pastries at La Reina Bakery or coffee at the original Philz Coffee shop.
Before the tour ends, our guide will show you the amazing Balmy Alley, a famous street in the Mission District known for its extensive collection of murals. Many of these murals express outrage over human rights violations and political abuses in Central America.
