Friendly company and amazing food - Michael was our tour guide and we had such a blast! We met at the Women’s Building and then were led to our first destination, which involved an amazing chocolatey dessert to start. We ate foods that spanned multiple cultures and all of it was absolutely amazing—I still daydream about some of the foods we got to try. In terms of the tour, Michael and his wife were easy to converse with and super likable. Some suggestions for people wanting to do this private tour: 1) DO NOT EAT beforehand! You will either be super full and satisfied by the end of the tour or disappointed for only being able to cover two or three places. 2) Bring an empty stomach. I know this one is repetitive, but! we ate breakfast *hours* before and walked almost four miles to work up an appetite and were able to get through 8 tastings before tapping out and going home to sleep it off haha. If you’re breakfast people, eat very light. We didn’t. 3) Bring your walking shoes! We walked to all destinations at quite a decent pace. There was also some sightseeing on the way to most destinations.

New Orleans at its finest - Brandon is such a fabulous storyteller! With his deep knowledge of history, and charismatic way of telling stories, it’s such a pleasure to have him around during this walk! We went to the best local food spots in town, and he even changed the route a bit to get my favourite dish! He took his time at each stop, this gave us a really comfortable feeling, not rushed at all! We can highly recommend this tour and Brandon as our tour guide

San Fran's food scene with Andy - Had a great tour with Andy! He's such a pleasant guy to explore the food scene of San Fran! At the start we got to know each other a bit and he asked if I had any wishes or restrictions on what to taste and see on the tour. Then, he did a magnificent job, to blend in the special requests I had. This is why I love private tours, as it ain't get more personal then this! We covered 8 food spots in nearly 3 hours, and during the walk, Andy had a lot of stories on the landmarks and buildings we passed. I can Highly recommend this tour and Andy as a tour guide!!

Tour not recommended - We’ve done food tours in the past, and also in San Francisco and Mission specifically. This was by far the worst experience we had... Few comments for improvement/we didn’t like: 1. The guide seemed to not really know the neighborhood and where to go. He added no context on the food or the neighborhood beyond just taking us from point to point and ordering food for us 2. It did not seem like the restaurants we came to, knew we are coming or knew the guide. In past tours, restaurants were ready for us, had a place for us to sit, knew the guide etc... 3. We had some people with food restrictions. When I mentioned that to the guide I thought it would mean they will get alternative dishes that fit their restrictions while others could get the “regular” dishes (again based on past experience), instead in most places we’ve got the lowest common denominator of all restrictions and had to split it by the 4 of us who were in the party. Really hurting the experience of the food tasting itself 4. I think the price was way too high relative to the quality of the experience that we received.

No show, terrible experience. - No Show! A horrible experience with my family in San Francisco, I paid a considerable sum for this experience and couldn't be more disappointed. Waited at the designated meeting point for well over an hour and called the two numbers given to me by this company, no answer. Thank you Viator for getting my money back in short order. Viator said they would be making a report against withlocals and I hope they do. Wouldn't recommend to my worst enemy.

Eat before you go! - After searching for the meeting address (which was wrong on the voucher) our guide, Mario, showed up 15 minutes late for our 12:00 tour. When he finally did arrive he was dressed in shorts, a tank top, a ball cap and pulled on a wrinkled shirt as he approached us. He was extremely scruffy and disheveled and looked as if he had just rolled out of bed. At our first stop we were seated at a dirty table, then ONE muffin arrived which the four of us were expected to share. In our correspondence with Mario prior to the tour he assured me that the two vegetarians in our group of four would be accommodated, yet this ONE muffin had bacon in it and so could not be tasted. He then led us to our second stop only to walk past it and then discovered that the restaurant was closed. On the way to our third stop we were informed that we would be given ONE quesadilla for all of us to share and that the meat eaters would just have to forgo the chicken it usually contained so the vegetarians could eat it. We have been on a lot of food tours all over the world and know that this is not how it is done. When questioned about this Mario told us that this is how Withlocals does it and told us that if we were unhappy we could discontinue the tour, which we did. This was not an inexpensive tour at $566 for the four of us. After two stops two of us had eaten 1/4 muffin each while two had eaten nothing. It was clear that this was not going to get better. We chose to abandon the tour. By this time it was 1:00 and we were hungry and had to get an UBER to take us across town to have lunch.
