Awakening with the Geysers

The journey began in the early hours of the morning, as we departed from Chiu-Chiu at 4:00 am. The anticipation of witnessing the Tatio Geysers at sunrise was enough to shake off any remnants of sleep. As we ascended to 4,320 meters above sea level, the crisp air of the Andes Mountains filled my lungs, invigorating my senses. The sight that greeted us was nothing short of magical. The geysers, one of the largest sources of hot springs in the world, erupted with jets of steam reaching up to 10 meters high. The sun’s first rays painted the landscape in hues of gold and pink, creating a surreal backdrop for this natural spectacle.

As a biologist, I couldn’t help but marvel at the geothermal activity beneath the earth’s crust that gave rise to such phenomena.
