Unplugged with Tiffany Shlain

I travel to experience things I have never seen, felt, or tasted before. When I was 15, I snuck off to Paris during a student exchange arrangement in a suburb of France. There was nothing that was going to keep me from Paris. Nowadays, I sneak off to my home in Marin to disconnect - and reconnect. While I love technology, I need to reset my mind and soul each week, and to remember what it is like to be present and in the moment. So, my family and I unplug from sundown on Friday to sundown on Saturday each week.
My favorite places to eat
1. Murray Circle at Cavallo Point - I'd recommend the grilled Padrone Peppers with Rancho Gordo Banana Vinegar & Bonito Flakes.
2. FISH in Sausalito - They serve a great fresh salad with their fresh fish of the day.
3. El Paseo - I love the Creekstone Black Angus Filet Mignon with Asparagus.
The places you should definitely see
1. The Bay Area Discovery Museum - This museum sits at the foot of the Golden Gate Bridge with innovative & interactive science and art exhibits for kids. It's done in an elegant and engaging way, and is a perfect way to spend the day with your kids.
2. The Headlands Center for the Arts - This is an old army barracks-turned-arts-center that supports artists while they are developing projects. I feel so grateful to have spent time as an artist-in-residence there. They have terrific open studios, events and art auctions. Highly recommend exploring it.
3. Downtown Mill Valley - I was born and raised in this funky small town in the 70s. It has become more sophisticated but maintains its unique soul and charm. There is always a lot going on like the Mill Valley Film Festival, 142 Throckmorton, the great art house Sequoia Theater, or even just hanging out in the public square at the Mill Valley book depot.
The place I'm most excited to go next is India. I love color and everything spicy.
