There is a second entrance to the convent, which leads to the cell of Padre Pio and the crypt where his body was initially placed before it was moved to the nearby sanctuary.
The journey continues with the ‘modern’ church, which was specifically built at the request of Padre Pio, intending to suitably handle the considerable influx of thousands of pilgrims that increasingly visited San Giovanni Rotondo.
