Absolute must experience - I'm a 57 year old reasonably fit, fairly adventurous woman and this experience is in my top 10. If you can't climb in and out of the back of a pick-up truck fairly easily, this trip is too rigorous. You'll be swimming/wading/climbing/crawling/bending--a lot. For two plus hours. Clothing: I wore a swimsuit and wish I hadn't. I recommend wearing shorts/bike shorts that won't chafe, a dryfit type of short sleeve shirt and sports bra. I wore tan colored Keens with a covered toe and they were perfect. Some in our group wore water shoes and they kept getting stuck in the mud/my husband slipped twice because of lack of traction. The only thing you need to bring is a water bottle, a pair of socks and a change of clothing for after. You'll be given a life vest/a hard hat w/light to wear at the start. There are no cameras/phones allowed inside the cave. So....the flat walk is 2 miles to the cave on a wide trail (it will be very muddy if it's been raining-3" mud in spots). You'll cross three rivers (I'm 5'9" and was up to my waist in swift water). There is a rope across the river to hold onto but you'll also be stepping on/over small and large, smooth river rock. Another reason to wear close-toed shoes. There are nice restrooms at the beginning of the trail head and at the cave entrance, there is a crude women's toilet (men peed in the bushes). You do not bring anything into the cave but yourself. You give your socks to your guide to carry and leave your water bottle behind on a bench. Inside the cave you'll be swimming/wading through water but the cave is warm inside and even though wet, I didn't get cold at all. It was very comfortable. I hope this information helps. The effort to get there is soooo worth it.

Best cave tour! Knowledgeable guide. - Wonderful tour. Emil was very informative about the culture and history of Belize, the Mayan people and natural resources. I learnt a lot! Very personable. He was patient during the tour, especially on the technical areas. What an incredible cave. Well worth a visit. The office staff were very helpful. I would recommend Maya Walk, this cave experience and Emil as a guide. Thank you!

Amazing experience - I had an excellent time exploring ATM cave. I wore Teva with thick wool hiking socks instead of sneakers or hiking shoes, and it was perfect. I don't recommend wearing any white socks or shoes. I had to walk over a muddy trail, and they will never return to white after this tour. I wish I had some pictures from the trip because cameras are not allowed during this tour. It was a fascinating experience for how closely I could see the Mayan artifacts in the cave. I strongly recommend this tour!

A once in a lifetime experience! - We were so excited for ATM from reading all the previous reviews and checking out the website. However, it completely EXCEEDED our expectations!! From the driver Jaheem, to our tour guide Juan Carlos, to the amazing food after the tour. It was everything AND MORE. We had a once in a lifetime adventure and we are so grateful to have found this company to tour with! We would highly recommend this if you are looking for one of the best adventures of your life ! When exploring the cave you will be swimming, walking, climbing, and squeezing through small cracks in the cave. If you’re an active explorer, enjoy hiking and don’t mind getting wet this is for you. Furthermore, they describe in great detail the history of the Mayans to include rituals and political issues.

A fun, but physical, tour - We really enjoyed this trip. Our guide's nickname was Junior; he was excellent at ensuring the group had a great time. He was very knowledgeable and had a passion that shone through. We learned a lot on the drive in, during the hike, and caving. This tour has a physical component that needs to be considered. The swimming and river crossings aren't bad since everyone is wearing life jackets and there are ropes to help cross the rivers. However, it is more the scrambling and rock climbing that may be a struggle for some people, especially if they are larger. The company communicated well with us and was able to pick us up at our Airbnb. We would recommend this tour to others. It was a highlight of our trip.
