- San Ignacio - After hotel pickup in San Ignacio, get ready for an adrenaline-filled adventure on a mountain bike! Your challenge begins in the outskirts of San Jose Succotz, where your expert guide suits you up with a bike and helmet, and offers a brief overview and safety training. Then follow your guide as you pedal up the mountain on a single track, dodging tree branches and jumping over tree roots along the way.
- Xunantunich - Afterward, the road turns into a less strenuous double track as you ride through a more open area, where you’ll admire panoramic views of the surrounding mountains.
Continue through open pasture and semi-deciduous forest to a beautiful riverbank where a picturesque single track leads you to the village of Succotz. Here, hop on a 19-century hand-cranked ferry for the quick journey across the Mopan River. When you reach the other side, ride your mountain bike uphill for 1 mile (1.6 km) on a paved road to the Mayan city of Xunantunich.
When you reach the site, you’ll have the opportunity to explore the archeological ruins with your guide, including El Castillo, the second tallest Mayan structure in Belize. After climbing to the pyramid’s towering summit, enjoy spectacular vistas of the Cayo District. Then, hop back on your bike for a speedy ride downhill. Your adventure ends with transport back to your San Ignacio hotel.
