CHRONICLE 2. WE START THE ADVENTURE OF OUR LAND. - The Natural Bridges – The Black Lagoon.
The Black Lagoon has an area of 900,000 m2 and its name obeys its dark, almost black color, which, it is said in the area is due to the number of guios (The guios are boas constrictors, non-venomous snakes that belong to one of the most primitive families of snakes, the “boidos”).
Guides feed mainly on rodents and some birds. (The history of the black color due to the guides at the bottom of the lagoon is part of the legends that weaves the appeal of the jungles.)
But, really, that black color is due to the dry leaves accumulated at the bottom of the lagoon, a phenomenon that is also observed in rivers of the Amazon rainforest, such as the Amacayacu, a tributary of the Amazon River.

Best Hiking Tour - This tour was the best tour I have been on! The experience was beyond my expectations. It was more than just a view of Cerro Azul! I did not expect going into a cave and meeting people with amazing stories about their lives and culture. It was awesome!!!
The ride along the way had spectacular views and I recommend sitting in the back of the truck for the experience.
Breakfast and lunch were provided with the package and they were hosted at a homestyle lodge and farm. The hosts were so friendly and welcoming and the home cooked meals were delicious!
Our guides were Miller, Jose and Janet and they were so nice and kept us entertained the entire day.
I recommend bringing a headlamp and hand sanitizer for the cave. I brought a backpack with a rain jacket, water and bug spray. For the truck ride, I wore sunglasses to prevent bugs from hitting my eye :)
There are not enough words for me to describe how much fun I had on this tour ! I recommend GeoTours 100%!!

A full day of exploration and learning to be had with the incredible Amazon jungle as a backdrop. - The day trip to cerro azul was spectacular! We first started with breakfast overlooking a lagoon. After it was a decent drive to base of the mountain we were about to climb. The local guides were extremely useful and knowledgeable of the area.
You get to see several ancient sites and many pictographs. You also get to climb through a cave to get to the last site! It was incredible.
After that, you travel to a locals farm for some lunch, where he explains a unique story of what their farm used to produce. It’s very informative and a great way to change the ever growing idea of what Colombia is.
This tour surpassed my expectations. What I really enjoyed was the use of locals guides and locations used throughout the day. This meant that everyone in the area benefited from the new tourism in the area.

Incredible tour, incredible guides, incredible history - I’ve been on lots of tours in lots of places. Tours of different types, and different sites. Eiffel Tower tour, Stonehenge, Chichen-Itzá, Tulum, Cenotes, Coffee plantations, Scuba tours etc etc.
This tour is the best tour I’ve ever been on. Hands down. No question.
I had booked this tour for my friends and I not knowing much about it besides that I would get to see the paintings at Cerró Azul, which I first read about 4 years ago and have wanted to visit since. The paintings were amazing, better than I could’ve hoped. To see the ancient depictions of life at that time and the animals that have been extinct since the end of the Pleistocene era like giant sloths, and notiomastadons. I can not over state how incredible it is. Not to mention Janet, the local guide we picked up on route was amazing, very informative about the local indigenous people and how their beliefs tied into Cerró Azul.
If that was the entire trip, I would’ve been happy, it was a great.
The day actually started with visiting a beautiful lagoon and having a delicious breakfast. Then we went to Cerró Azul. Then after Cerró Azul we went to a family farm and they served us a delicious meal of chicken and rice for lunch. After lunch we had a coffee and the farmer explained to us the history of the area and of this farm itself in the production and trade of cocaine, how the area has been “cleaned up” and how he played his part in the previous way of life as well as the new way. Very incredible story. He showed us all the chemicals that go into the production of the cocaine and talked about how terrible it is and how no one should use it.
Our guide from Geo was José. Great guy, very knowledgeable and fun. Our translator was Miller and he was great as well, making sure we didn’t miss any information from Janet, the farmer, or José. Both Miller and José rode in the box of the truck with us all day, there is a few hours of driving between the back and forth of the locations but it was so much fun. They were helping us with Spanish practice and teaching us Spanish phrases while we were cracking jokes to each other. Great guys.
Our day ended with us grabbing a few cervezas at a roadside cantina, red sun setting behind us, laughing with Jose and Miller while we bounced down the dirt road.
Incredible and unforgettable tour.

Tourism for La Paz! - In 2016, before the Peace Agreement was signed, I decided to come with two friends to see Guaviare. At that time, there was not much talk about the wonders we found in this place, the history, the places that are an example of how small who we are in front of the magnificence of nature. In the hotel where we stayed there was an advertisement for a youth company that provided guiding services, one of those young people was Julián who has been working for more than 8 years to promote community tourism in his department.
In 2022, my brother decided that he wanted to spend part of his vacation in Guaviare. Fortunately, we were referred to Geotours. It was a pleasant surprise to arrive at the Orion Gate and once again see Julián contributing to his territory, to the conservation of the Amazon and the promotion of productive transformation from roots, environmental care and the promotion of ecotourism.
It really makes you happy to see how these young people contribute to the generation of other alternatives for a department that subsists on livestock farming, illegalized economies, palm monoculture among others.
These young people continue to bet on turning tourism into the main income generator in their region, they support farmers who previously subsisted on coca and now provide delicious dishes, while conserving nature and preventing SPA consumption, farmers who guide, who tell their life stories, imprinting mystique from their stories.
The above combined with the exuberance of the Amazon, the sunset, the summer moon, the diversity of the fauna, swimming with wild dolphins, seeing toucans while driving in the 4x4 on one of the many trails waiting to be paved, seeing a family of squirrel monkeys crossing from tree to tree, eating cocoa, palm hearts and termites, is an experience that I eagerly repeat and that I hope you live.
Colombia is the country of beauty and Geotours is a very good option to discover the natural beauty and that of its people.
