From Waves to Waterfalls: A Surfer’s Day at Arenal Volcano
Trading surfboards for hiking boots, my wife and I embarked on the Arenal Volcano Tour from San José. With coffee tastings, wildlife encounters, and hot springs, it was a day of pure Costa Rican magic.
A Journey Through Costa Rica’s Heart
The day began with the sun peeking over the horizon, casting a golden glow over San José. My wife and I, always on the lookout for new adventures, decided to take a break from the waves and explore the lush landscapes of Costa Rica’s interior. The Arenal Volcano Tour promised a day filled with coffee, culture, and natural wonders, and it did not disappoint.
Our guide, Kenneth, was a gem. His passion for the region was infectious, and his knowledge of the local flora and fauna was impressive. As we made our way to the Arenal Volcano, Kenneth regaled us with stories of the land, its people, and its wildlife. We stopped at a coffee plantation, where the rich aroma of freshly roasted beans filled the air. It was a treat to learn about the coffee-making process and to taste the different blends. The plantation was a serene escape, a stark contrast to the adrenaline-pumping surf spots I’m used to.
Nature’s Bounty
The journey continued with a visit to the breathtaking La Paz Waterfall. The sound of cascading water was music to our ears, and the surrounding rainforest was a vibrant tapestry of greens. Kenneth’s enthusiasm was contagious as he pointed out various bird species, including the elusive toucan. We even had the chance to see a mother sloth and her baby, a sight that left us in awe.
Our next stop was the iguana observation checkpoint, where these prehistoric-looking creatures lounged lazily in the trees. It was a reminder of the diverse wildlife that calls Costa Rica home. As someone who spends most of his time by the ocean, it was refreshing to immerse myself in the country’s rich biodiversity.
Soaking in Serenity
After a delicious Costa Rican lunch, we headed to the Paradise Hot Springs. Nestled in a lush garden, the hot springs were a haven of relaxation. The warm, mineral-rich waters were the perfect antidote to the day’s adventures. As I soaked in the pools, I couldn’t help but reflect on the beauty of this country and the warmth of its people.
The day ended with a hearty dinner, and as we made our way back to San José, I felt a deep sense of gratitude. The Arenal Volcano Tour was more than just a day trip; it was a journey into the heart of Costa Rica, a reminder of the wonders that lie beyond the waves. Pura vida, indeed!
