The very BEST experience! Highly recommend! - Long story short: I give this experience 5 out of 5 stars - shining brightly. Book it, and you won't regret it. More details: My husband, 8 yo daughter and I were on a cruise, stopping in Puerto Rico for a limited amount of time. Many would say it was too short a time to get to El Yunque and back, but I really wanted to hike in the rainforest, and my husband agreed to take the risk. We booked this trip the night before and immediately heard from San Juan Tours to confirm and make arrangements, including arranging to have us picked up from the cruise terminal to save time. I really liked that because we were the ones showing up last minute and hoping for the best. First "thank you" to San Juan Tours is for the consistent communication and really working to ensure the experience event happened. The next amazing thing about this experience was our tour guide - Xander. Xander was phenomenal! Of course he was knowledgeable and fun. He also made me feel safe. We saw other hikers, even those in groups, not wearing helmets or life vests. To each their own; however, I actually hit my head once coming around a rock, and there's no way I would have survived the most fun of the hike without that life vest! He was very concerned about us having appropriate footwear too, and as we watched others slip and fall, I became much more grateful for his concern for our wellbeing. He helped my husband and I with our daughter in particular during trickier parts of the hike, too. Overall, just an awesome human and a wonderful guide. Thanks so much, Xander. Lastly, as I mentioned at the beginning, I booked this activity last minute and took a risk because it is pretty much standard cruise line policy that if you take the chance of booking an excursion outside those offered by the cruise line and the excursion runs late, you get left behind. I knew the risk and took it. It was worth it! Xander gave us a wonderful experience within El Yunque and then applied the pressure to get us back to the cruise terminal in San Juan. Let me be clear: Even if we missed our ship and had to find our way back home from Puerto Rico without anything we had on the ship, THIS WOULD HAVE STILL BEEN WORTH THE RISK! The experience was that good! As a matter of fact, I was checking local AirBnBs and flights back home on the ride back to the cruise terminal. We were just so completely satisfied - impressed really. We felt cared for, cared about, and we had such a memorable and amazing time. I cannot recommend this activity enough, and Xander was incredible! I'm so grateful.

A must do in Puerto Rico - Xander our tour guide was absolutely amazing. He was running behind on schedule but surely made it up to us. He was extremely knowledgeable and patient. The waterslides, rope swing, cliff jump were the highlights. Definitely not an easy hike but worth every second!

Must do in Puerto Rico - Overall, one of the best experiences you can do in Puerto Rico. Our tour guide, Xander, was fantastic… punctual, fun, and knowledgeable. Trail consisted of natural slides, climbs, rope swings, and cliff jump (20ft). Definitely need a tour guide for this trail, wear biker shorts/shorts and closed toe shoes (slippery rocks/River walks/mud). Xander ensured our safety and provided necessary vest & helmet. && bring cash for some local cuisine!!

Everything you need to know - This was a great experience overall. There was an abundance of photo opportunities, crystal clear waters, an opportunity to slide down a natural rock slide, jump from a rock, and also do a rope swing. This experience offered early arrivals to beat the crowds, and that was necessary because it became very crowded towards midday. There is a bathroom upon arrival. We were allowed to leave our belongings in a locked van. We were required to wear life jackets and helmets, which were provided. The whole experience occurs on an individual’s personal property where we walked 20 minutes down a very muddy, slippery trail to reach the river. We were given the time to change clothes afterwards, including a hose to rinse off with. We never felt unsafe, and our guide was friendly. The 4 stars is because we felt it wasn’t truly a tour. Our guide pointed out only 2 plants. We saw 0 animals. Rather than a tour, this was a trip to swim in the river.

Very SAFE hike and swim😉 - Fantastic little hike and wonderful pool with rope swing and cliff jumping, it appears this tour group was a touch overboard with safety as our group were the only people out of about 80 there required to wear helmets and life jackets which was a bit frustrating.

Unprofessional - I recently took a tour with Carlos as our guide, and unfortunately, it was a complete disaster. Carlos was unprofessional, unorganized, and failed to provide the service promised. Specifically: - He didn't take any photos as advertised, which was a major letdown. - The tour was chaotic and disorganized, with one participant almost drowning. - Carlos seemed unprepared and uninterested in ensuring our safety and well-being. I would not recommend this tour or Carlos as a guide to anyone. The experience was a waste of time and money. Viator should reconsider partnering with such an unreliable and unprofessional guide.

Unsafe and Frustrated: My disastrous El Yunque tour experience! - I recently participated in this El Yunque rainforest tour and I have to say, it was not at all what I had expected. I was under the impression that it would be a leisurely walking tour with some water and mud, but it turned out to be more suited for rock climbers and hikers. Our tour guide, Xander, was offensive and used stereotypes when addressing my niece, best friend and I. He suggested that we were not bold enough to handle the tour, which I found to be highly unprofessional and discouraging. Additionally, we were not given any options prior to the tour for how to get back prior to going out; we were simply told that we had to go back the way we came. I felt that my life was in danger going back the same route, and it was a very unsettling experience. We saw people return a different route that apparently lead to the actual El Yunque starting point for beginners. He told us unless we had five dollars for everyone to get back we were going to go back the same way because he was not going to pay. I guess my question then became then what did I pay 89.00 for? Again, I seriously felt my life in danger. To make matters worse, we never saw a water fountain or restroom during the entire tour. This is something that should have been clearly communicated to us beforehand. On top of that, the tour guide suggested that we not wear bug spray, which I found to be irresponsible and potentially dangerous. I would advise anyone considering this tour to ensure that they thoroughly research the entry point and confirm the level of difficulty before booking. It's also important to make sure that the tour company provides options for how to safely return to the starting point. In my opinion, this is not the safest group to travel with and I would not recommend this tour to others.
