The best part of our trip! - There are so many options, I chose Marlon and I am glad I did. From the beginning of our meeting to the end of our trip he was genuine, informative, professional and very kind. Our family of four had a blast. Marlon took his time and make sure everyone was involved. The group was only ten of us, so it felt very personal. We were concerned since my son who is 24 an adult with autism, was going to slowed the group, instead Marlon make sure he was involved and at times leading the excursion with him. That showed his leadership, professionalism and most of all his kindness. The place is amazing. We finished at Luquillo for some good puertorrican food. Marlon is very knowledgeable on the fauna, plants and environment of el Yunque and surrounding areas.

Best El Yunque National Forest Tour with Marlon! - If you're in Puerto Rico, El Yunque National Rainforest is a must visit! And without a local tour guide, you will not be able to REALLY experience the rainforest such as the water activities including natural water slide, cliff jumping, and rope swinging. There are so many different tours on Trip Advisor and Viator, but I'm so glad I went with Isla Borinken.
Unfortunately, the company only has one 8 am tour and my family and I were driving from Aguadilla on the west side all the way past San Juan to the meeting spot at the Norte Shopping Center. So, I recommend staying around the area the night before. The meet up spot was perfect as there's a huge parking lot for your car rental and restrooms inside Loiza Supermarket. However, before heading into the rainforest, you stop by a local market, Frutera Flores, where the guide Marlon picks up some fresh fruits. There, there's 3 restrooms that you may use before heading into the rainforest. You may also buy souvenirs and fresh smoothies at the market too!
Once you are inside El Yunque, you will be asked to leave all your valuables inside the van and take only what is absolutely necessarily. This includes your cellphone in your waterproof phone pouch, a small water bottle, and clothes you don't mind getting wet/dirty in. If you plan on doing any water activities which I highly recommend, you have to take a life jacket with you. I love nature, but I'm not a hiking person and the hike is not strenuous at all especially with Marlon's fun and interesting facts about the flora and fauna of the rainforest throughout the hike. However, the hike is definitely VERY MUDDY AND SLIPPERY. Wear water shoes that have good grip!
Once we reach the water, there are a bunch of other people from other tours where you can relax and mingle if you do not want to proceed with the water activities. If you do plan on going up, the first stop trying the fresh water that flows down the rocks. Then, you will slide that a natural waterslide which felt much safer than I thought it would (as long as you follow the instructions and tuck your arms in by crossing them!) Afterwards, you can jump off a cliff where you choose from 3 different heights. This was the most intimidating as it requires your own will to make that leap of faith! But once you get over the fear, it is amazing! Lastly, you hold onto a rope and swing into the water.
After all the activities, Marlon cut some fresh fruits for us to eat including bananas, mangoes and pineapples. They were absolutely delicious! And then, we got our face painted with the rocks from the rainforest. The good thing about an early tour is you get to leave early as well. When we were heading out of the rainforest, we encountered more people as the rain starting falling harder and the skies became cloudier. We came out the same way we went in - through the mud! The only way through is simply to embrace it. The good thing is that there is a fresh creek near the van where you can wash off. Then, you can change your clothes in the back of the van or in one of the local's buildings. Definitely bring a change of clothes and flip flops!
After El Yunque, we visited the oldest marketplace in Puerto Rico - Kiosks de Luquillo which is mostly restaurants! Marlon recommended #38 Edel Weiss and it was indeed delicious! The portions are humongous and my family of 5 split 3 orders. The Christmas platter, shrimp Mofongo with garlic cream, and seafood stuffed avocado with garlic cream. The best Mofongo I've had all trip! The piña colada was delicious too! While we ate and explored the kiosks, we were able to dry our clothes and belongings on top of the van. There is also a souvenir shop at the kiosks which has a good variety to choose from.
After a wonderful meal, Marlon drove us back to the shopping plaza where we said our goodbyes. Marlon was very caring and looked after everyone throughout the hike. He also took amazing photos and videos for us during the water activities. I will definitely book with Marlon when I come back to Puerto Rico!

Marlon is AMAZING - Marlon was an amazing guide and had a lot of knowledge about everything we encountered on the trail. My group was on the larger side (10 adults), and another group of 3 also was on tour with us. Marlon ensured to make everyone feel included, welcomed and learned something about each one of us. I would 1000% recommend booking with Marlon and will be booking another excursion with him in the future!
