Once in a lifetime!! - This experience lived up to its high standards. Staff to great care of us making sure we were comfortable during our day trip to and from Bio Bay.
The Bay was incredible!! Staff were extremely knowledgeable and amazing guides. Not only did we learn so much about how the bay thrives and supports wild life, but we also learned about how it impacts our existence and what locals are doing to protect and see it flourishes!
Although it was alot of travel in 1 day it was fun to experience wild horses, Mofongo delicacy, and prehistoric bio Bay wildlife.
Extremely grateful that Puerto Ricans are so passionate about protecting and preserving the bay for the world to learn from!
Highly recommend doing this truly a lifetime experience I'll never forget...

Bio Bay Excursion - The transportation was efficient and comfortable. We felt the time at each location was sufficient. The Beach was beautiful. The food at Bananas in Malencon was fast and delicious. The kayaking was relaxing, and informative regarding the history and importance of the bay. Would definitely recommend!

Same day Vieques tour rocks! - This one day excursion is great if you don’t want or have time to stay overnight in Vieques. Everything was seamless from pickup to drop-off. Rafael was our guide for the day, and he was punctual, friendly, but also firm when it came to keeping people on time. Sun Bay Beach was delightful and Rafael had snacks and drinks for us as well! Dinner in Esperanza was yummy and also time friendly, since the kayaking bio Bay excursion place was right down the street from where we ate. Rafael was also reassuring when it came time to leave our bags before kayaking- because we had already spent a good part of the day with him and had established rapport, so when he said he would stay with our bags and watch them, we trusted him and we weren’t let down. It was a long day, but we were prepared and I would highly recommend this!

Great Day. Thanks Rafael!! - Rafael was a great guide. He was very professional and thorough. He also had a fun personality and got along well with everyone in our group.
Not going to lie, it’s a long day but a very enjoyable long day. This was our first trip to P. R. so we didn’t mind the drive and seeing new areas. The ferry trip was also new to us so kind of fun.
We had time for refreshments at the beach and more than enough time to eat and take sunset photos.
The bio bay is amazing. You have to see it to believe it.
All in all, they leave no stone unturned. Everything was planned out and executed perfectly.

Rafael is our wonderful guide for Mosquito Bay - This was a wonderful experience with our guide Rafael. He did above and beyond. He is really a bright and decent person who cares his customers as his family members. You can’t imagine he could speak perfectly fluent English and he said he learned English by himself. He gave us clear instructions for each stop we had. He is very patient and organized. The trip was about ~12 hours long in total and we feel the time passed by so quickly and seamlessly with the fun activities Rafael planned. I want to go with Rafael again.

Once in a lifetime bio bay experience - Glad we did it because seeing the brightest bio bay is a once in a lifetime experience. That said, the logistics of the trip felt rushed even though there was a lot of waiting. We made it to the ferry (thanks to Rafael) an hour early, but for some reason our boarding time was delayed over an hour. Because of that, we missed out on the first two stops of our afternoon in Vieques. No beach and no dinner stop before kayaking 🙁. I Ventures was the only tour outfitter that I found who offered a same day pickup & return from San Juan to Mosquito Bay. Overall, I think it was worth it... I just wish the ferry situation was more reliable and maybe we would have gotten to experience the full itinerary of our tour.

Beautiful destination but LONG travel - Our experience was a bit mixed.
The best part was being in the bioluminescent bay for an hour which was a magical experience. That was the specific experience we were looking for, and it did not disappoint. It was also a dark, clear night so we even got a little lesson on some of the stars and constellations.
Also, once we got to the Esperanza area of Vieques, another operator (JAKS) got us to the bay, on the bay, and back to Esperanza. They were great, especially our JAKS guide (Cruz).
Just to summarize the travel…
Ground transportation (San Juan to the Puerto Rico ferry port, Vieques ferry port to Esperanza, and Esperanza to the bay) is about 2.5 hours each way.
And the ferry ride is an hour each way, plus about 1.5 hours total ferry wait time. So that’s about 8.5 hours just to get there and back.
Aside from the bay tour, the typical schedule includes about 1.5 hours for a beach visit, dinner, and/or sunset viewing. If you want to do all three, it will be rushed which is a disappointing feeling after so much travel and waiting.
On our trip, the ferry departure time was unexpectedly delayed an hour with no explanation. Our I Ventures tour guide (Rafael) did let us know in advance so we didn’t have to wait at the ferry port, but that left us with just 30 minutes for the beach visit, sunset viewing, and dinner.
The selling point of this tour is that it avoids an overnight stay in Vieques. But in retrospect, I’m thinking an overnight stay in Vieques would have made it more relaxing and enjoyable.

Long Day but the kayaking was awesome - We took the tour leaving from San Juan and it was a very long day. The original tour states 3pm, but it was actually a 12:30pm pick up. We rode in an extremely uncomfortable packed van for over an hour to the ferry. We waited there for the ferry for another hour. The ferry ride was about 40 minutes long and that was a decent ride. Then you get in another packed van for another hour ride to Sun Bay beach where you stay for about 45 minutes. There is no where to change at the beach as it is pretty remote. The driver had a cooler with a couple cups of cut fruit, oreos, beer and water. once you leave the beach you head to the little town of Esperanza about 10 minutes away. There you can have supper at one of the few places available and explore the area. I got some amazing sunset pictures here, so take some time to enjoy that. We were there for about 2 hours on our own and then meet to walk over to JAK Watersports for the tour. We were given a life jacket and there was a very small porta potty to try change in. We then took a bus to the beach again and it is VERY dark, no lights to walk from the parking lot to the landing where you get in the kayak. No need to wear water shoes as they make you take them off for the kayaking anyways because shoes scratch the glass bottom boats. We kayaked for about an hour and then back on the bus and everything in reverse, minus the 2 hour stay in Esperanza. The ferry leaves Vieques at 930pm on the button, but the ride was the car and passenger ferry, so took about 15 minutes longer. We were back in San Juan by about 11:45pm. The kayaking itself was amzing and the guide was very well informed. It was impossible to get pictures or video to do the experience justice.

Don’t Bother Figuring It Out – Book Elsewhere! - This is a very interesting case. The company, I Ventures, is alive and well. Yet, for this particular day trip, there are only two reviews here.
I tried my luck and failed.
(Before this day trip, I had booked a Culebra Swim with Turtles Adventure and Flamenco Beach by Ferry with the same company. Received confirmation, a reminder on the eve of the adventure, a text with the guide’s name (Rafael –I presume the one that got so many positive reviews) and phone number. Then, as the excursion first got moved one hour to the left and then got cancelled altogether for reasons beyond the company’s control, I got emails and texts. When I called and texted Rafael to confirm, he responded with a text that yes, everything had been cancelled.)
After such a positive experience, it was surprising to see none of this occurring for the Vieques Bio Bay + Beach Day Trip by Ferry from San Juan. Booked with the same company on the very same website, mind you.
A reminder on the day before – yes. But no text, no guide’s contact info.
But then, as that preceding day rolled on (and the trip was due next day, BUT in the afternoon, and I wanted to either be picked up in the small town where I was staying or go straight to the ferry myself instead of wasting three hours driving to the supposed group meeting location in San Juan, which meant departing much earlier), still nothing.
I tried calling the number on the confirmation page. First, a recording in a female voice suggesting that I either email or text them. No options. No option to get through to a live person. And then a recording in Spanish in such a poor quality that I was unable to make a single word out.
And it was already the afternoon of the day preceding the one for the trip. If I sent a text or an email, no one would probably respond because of the end of the work day. Which meant that it may be too late for me to leave for San Juan by the time I received an answer until the next morning (if I were still to go to San Juan).
Obviously, one wants to be able to plan ahead.
So I decided to call Rafael. Rafael was great. Not only did Rafael pick up the phone answering my unknown number, put down my phone number and name and understood my predicament, but also promised (and did it!) to call the office and get a response. So I got one response through him and then an email into my inbox.
Funny, my inbox shows the cancellation notice coming in just two hours after the reminder email.
I also got a text. The text named the fact that a total of six people had failed to be reached, hence the confirmation. Really surprised at that, since this is the height of the tourist season, holidays and kids still on their break.
When I tried to search for a similar excursion, but in Fajardo Bay, not a single spot was available.
But, to my consolation, a company website read that the chance of seeing bioluminescence on those few days left was minimum, so I hadn’t probably lost a lot.
Conclusion: don’t know what is going on with the Vieques BioBay excursion offered by I Ventures (as opposite to the Culebra Swim) and why there are only two reviews (so different from a multitude of them for the Culebra Swim), but just don’t bother. Look elsewhere.
As a final note, both trips were promptly refunded, so no issues here.
