Highlights
  • Porta San Francesco - Fully accessible entrance to the historic center. Constructed from chisel-smoothed gray stone, it serves as the first access arch built during the creation of the third city wall in the 16th century. The external facade features a small 16th-century balcony, with the Republic’s coat of arms carved on its front.
  • Piazzetta del Titano - A vibrant corner of San Marino’s historic center, recognized as a UNESCO heritage site. It’s an ideal spot to admire San Marino’s architectural beauty and enjoy people-watching from a bar’s tables. The square also hosts a splendid museum that showcases the nation’s archaeological and artistic history and the evolution of its currency.

From the center of Piazza del Titano, you can observe the austere architecture of its buildings, characterized by pillars and simple balconies. An imposing arched door is visible on one side of the square, with a bas-relief of San Marino as a bricklayer under one of the arches.

The main attraction is the State Museum, housed in the Pergami Belluzzi palace. It contains around 5000 artifacts illustrating the history of San Marino and ancient civilizations worldwide. The duration of the visit can vary.

  • Cava dei Balestrieri - A historical landmark easily accessible upon arriving in the historic center, located near the cable car stop. Initially used as a quarry for material recovery and stone extraction for the restoration of the nearby Palazzo Pubblico.

Since the 1960s, this area has been equipped for shooting with the large Italian crossbow, an ancient arms game now part of San Marino’s historical and folkloric heritage. The Cava dei Balestrieri was officially inaugurated on 3 September 1971. The duration of the visit can vary.

  • The Canton - San Marino Panoramic Viewpoint - A must-visit panoramic point offering views of San Marino and Romagna, with rolling hills and the Adriatic Sea. The duration of the visit can vary.
  • Piazza della Liberta - The heart of San Marino’s political life and history, where the installation ceremony of the Captains Regent takes place every 6 months: on 1 April and 1 October each year.

The Palazzo Pubblico stands on the “Pianello” or Piazza della Libertà, on the site of the Domus Comunis Magna, built between 1380 and 1392 and repaired several times.

In the late 19th century, the Palazzo Vecchio resembled a 17th-century building. On 17 May 1884, the foundation stone of the current Palace was laid, designed by Roman architect Francesco Azzurri, president of the Accademia di San Luca in Rome, and constructed by local stonecutters led by San Marino master builder Giuseppe Reffi, using stones from the Titano quarries.

The inauguration took place on 30 September 1894, with Giosuè Carducci delivering the famous speech on “perpetual freedom.” The duration of the visit can vary.

  • Basilica del Santo Marino - The main Catholic place of worship in the City of San Marino, belonging to the diocese of San Marino-Montefeltro, dedicated to the city’s and state’s patron saint. Located in Piazzale Domus Plebis. The duration of the visit can vary.
  • Torri di San Marino - La Guaita, also known as the Fortress or the First Tower, is the largest and oldest of the three fortresses dominating the city of San Marino. The duration of the visit can vary.
  • Passo Delle Streghe - Near the Prima Torre, offering views of the Adriatic Sea and the Romagna coast up to the Comacchio valleys: an emotional experience to try! The duration of the visit can vary.
