• Calle Principal de Los Frailes - Our initial encounter will consist of a brief introduction followed by a guided exploration of the encaustic art display. Subsequently, we’ll proceed to the workshop area where I’ve prepared the painting workstations. The encaustic art class is designed to impart fundamental knowledge, including the creation of encaustic paint, the use of commercially available paints, suitable bases, primers, and various methods such as applying paint, fusing, glazing, etching, and incorporating mixed media elements. We’ll discuss safety precautions, necessary materials, and demonstrate techniques for paint application, glazing, and fusing to achieve a flawless finish. Demonstrations will also include methods for integrating collage elements, crafting lines, and adding texture. A key focus will be on how each participant can adapt these techniques to forge their own distinctive encaustic style. Instruction will include creating multiple layers and unique methods like etching. On the first day, we’ll dedicate time to mastering the use of gas torches, an essential tool for blending and fusing colored layers. Participants will depart with at least one complete painting, often more. All techniques will be thoroughly explained and shown, with written instructions provided.

I have the most experience in using the encaustic technique and teaching than other teachers in San Miguel de Allende. I can move from abstract to figurative painting to encourage and help students to create their own visions. Since the class is in my private studio, I have collections of materials and tools at their disposal. Because of my background in the arts, both as a teacher an exhibiting artist, I can guide and advise each person personally.
