Additional Information

Rancho Xotolar, a functioning ranch, has remained within the Morin Ruiz lineage for over four generations. Situated on a high plateau, 18km away from SMA’s heart, the ranch is set in an unspoiled, rural setting away from the trappings of modern life. Its location adjoins the newly discovered archaeological site of Cañada de la Virgen, featuring pre-Columbian pyramid structures and diverse architecture attributed to the Tolteca-Chichimecas groups from central Mexico.

Visitors at our ranch get a real taste of Mexican cultural life. As a part of the Morin family, you will relish the extensive outdoors, not as a visitor, but as a family member. Guided by Thomás and Felix Morín, you will traverse through remarkable countryside filled with awe-inspiring views and charming landscapes. The guides will share their extensive wisdom and expertise while ensuring your safety. Once you’re done with the ride, entertain your palate with a genuine ranch ‘comida’, comprising delectable, freshly-cooked specialties, complemented with a chilled ‘cerveza’.

What an experience! - Book this trip! It is so much more than horse back riding. The family’s hospitality is second to none! I love this family! It is such an authentic experience. I was very nervous at first but my horse, Panzón, was so surefooted, that I could ride with my eyes closed… literally. The food and drink was delicious! You will not be disappointed!!

A piece of Heaven on Earth - I chose this activity for my birthday and it was the best decision I made! Since they went to pick us up at the hotel, Leo gave us confidence and security, and he also told us beautiful stories about his family, the ranch and the 7 generations that have passed there. Felix made us feel at home and meeting Manolo (dog) and the fact that from the first second he approached us so we could pet him was all that made us feel like family. We did the tour during the afternoon and led by Eusebio, our horses Rojo and Panzón took us throughout the canyon, with songs, gallops and laughter. We finished the tour with the best of sunsets and then went on to eat sopes, a bean broth, enchiladas and salsas, but the main ingredient there was love…and fresh cheese! Without hesitation we repeat it again, next time probably in the morning to have the opportunity to milk the cows. Thank you very much to the entire family for opening the doors of this ranch to us, which is a piece of heaven on earth!

Wonderful, family run, authentic Mexican ranch - Highly recommend Xotolar ranch! The whole operation is owned and run by three generations of a large family, most of whom live on the ranch, and they take great care of you. We went twice and both times were paired with an english speaking member of the family to pick us up and tell us about the place and how to handle their horses (huge thank you to Leo and Thomás). In addition at least 3 lovely cowboys accompanied us for each ride and helped look out for everyone. Thomás and Leo and the other gentlemen who accompanied us were all wonderful. Between how well the horses know their jobs and having so many capable hands on deck making sure everything going well, all the rider really needs to worry about is staying on. They let you do short bursts of canter/hand gallop, which is great fun, but if you do not have riding experience, be aware that this will be an adventure and there are always risks anytime you ride any horse, however you could not ask for better hands to be in. Oh, and they even lend you a sun hat and take pictures from horseback of the ride for you from your phone! It's a wonderful way to explore the canyons around San Miguel and learn more about the history and changes of the area. The cooking also deserves a special mention, as Thomás's sister/Leo's aunt made the most delicious authentic meals for us to enjoy.

Absolutely Astonishing - If you are visiting San Miguel De Allende you have to check this activity out, it will not disappoint you. My partner and I took a mini vacation to San Miguel this week. While on our vacation, we went on tik tok and came across this place. The videos that we saw spoke highly about this place so we decided to book the excursion. Here are the reasons why it’s worth booking the excursion and why we enjoyed it: 1. They were so accommodating: we booked the night before for the 9am excursion and they still accepted our reservation. 2. Transportation: they pick you up from where you are staying which is a plus. The ranch is about 30-45min away from San Miguel. 3. Hospitality: the entire staff was very hospitable since the beginning. This is a family own business so they made us feel like we were at home. They took pictures of us which was nice of them to do. 4. History & Food: the 9am tour included milking a cow and seeing the processing of the queso fresco. They told us all about the history of how the business started which was heartwarming because you can see the hard work and dedication that they put into this business. Additionally, the lunch that is provided is a 10/10 (homemade food). I highly recommend this place! It will not disappoint you. Thank you again to all the staff members that made us feel like we were at home.
