Wonderful Experience with Jeronimo! - This class is taught by Josefina's son - Jeronimo. Our group of 5 began by meeting him at the local outdoor market and we did a tour & history of the culture. Very interesting. It was a fairly hot day so dress appropriately. We then drove our car back to Jeronimo's kitchen. It is a SMALL kitchen on a side street - no A/C (its open air) but fans were everywhere. It did get hot with the gas stoves but there was plenty of cold drinks. The margaritas and sherbet at the end we so refreshing. We sat at a table while Jeronimo and his helper prepared the food in front of us. We help occasionally. We booked our class at www.cozumelchef.com. Jeronimo's email is [email protected].

Great time learning to cook Mexican food! - We met Jeronimo at the market. He took us to the different stalls where he purchased fresh fruit, vegetables and shrimp (that’s the protein we chose) while educating us on the nutritional values of each item. We then proceeded to their home kitchen where the feast began. Jeronimo was our chef today. He prepared numerous authentic Mexican dishes for us. We helped chop and mix. Our 11 yr old granddaughter prepared the tortilla dough and was really proud of herself - she can’t wait to make them at home. We all shaped our tortillas and put them in the pan. We had a wonderful time as well as a wonderful host/chef. Josephine should be proud of her son! Don’t pass this up - go to the beach another day! Thanks Jeronimo for a fantastic experience!

The best cooking class - This was truly an awesome experience. We met Jeronimo at the market (great directions- easy to find and connect) where we selected the items we were going to need. He really knows his stuff and offered a lot of information and insight throughout the market. After about half an hour, he called a cab that took us to his house where the real fun began. He taught my wife and I how to make several sauces/salsas; guacamole, dips, home made tortillas, a few sides, along with shrimp and pork tacos el pastor to finish. A delicious margarita along the way also! This was our favorite excursion during the entire cruise. We were truly made to feel like one of the family and we learned so much. And left completely stuffed!!!

Excellent Immersion & Cooking Experience! - I highly recommend this cooking class. It didn't disappoint. It's a great immersion experience! Chef Jeronimo, Josefina's son, first met us at the market to shop for the ingredients. He introduced us to local produce and spices and their properties. Next, we crossed the street to a tortilla shop to sample fresh made tortilla. A Taxi van then took us to his house. Jeronimo sat us at the table in his Dining room/Kitchen. It felt like we got invited to dinner! The room had his family pictures and decorations. He then began making 5-6 different kinds of salsa/appetizers to be served with chips. He explained the ingredients and process of preparing each dish. For beverages, he made us a Jamaica flower tea and a Chaya green drink. We helped with chopping veggies & making tortillas. For main dishes, we had chicken and pork cooked with a red sauce. By that time, we were almost full from having too much chips & salsa. Pros: 1. Well prepared and well-paced. 2. Jeronimo was passionate about introducing his family recipes and his Mexican/European heritage. He worked tirelessly during the 3 hours of class. 3. The food prepared on site was authentic & delicious. 4. E-Recipe PDF copy included in a later email. 5. Professional, Informative & Entertaining. 6. Easy to book and friendly reminder emails of meeting location and what to expect. Cons: 1. Due to the lack of AC & the heat from cooking, the room was probably over mid-80'sF. (This was at the beginning of June.) Would be nice to have some fans. 2. We got to watch the cooking and preparation process and the hands-on part was quite minimal (chopping and tortilla making). It's understandable given the number of dishes and the space. There were 6 of us and we all had a great time. There was not a boring moment and we all got transportation to return to the Market.

Take this class! Your taste buds will thank you. - We LOVED this class. I've taken cooking classes around the world and this one is up there with the best. Jeronimo led us through the market where we bought fresh ingredients for our meal, chose what we would like to make, and sampled a fresh fruit that tasted a bit like a sweet potato. He was so knowledgeable about all of the ingredients, their places of origin and nutritional properties. The kitchen we prepared the foods in was lovely and comfortable. Every thing we tasted was so flavorful and the fresh margarita was delicious! This is a great and authentic way to spend part of your day in Cozumel. Highly recommend!

Cooking Al Fresco - Excellent experience. Geronimo was Host, Tour Guide and Chef extraordinaire! Touring the open air market learning about fresh vegetables, meats, and spices began our class experience. Once we arrived at our classroom (Chef’s own home), the hands on lessons were fun and relaxed. Will do this again!

Unusual, thrilling cooking experience - If you're looking for an authentic experience and something a little different from the typical suggestions found online, this cooking class is a must! Our experience started at the local market where Jeronimo greeted us, offered different options of meals to prepare and then took us through the market to select the right ingredients. He carefully selected fresh ingredients from different vendors, had us smell spices, and choose a Mexican candy to try. From there we walked around the corner and sampled tortillas that were handmade in the "factory." We then took a short taxi ride to Jeronimo's home where we met Angie, a lifelong friend. After washing hands we sat at the table and all participated in preparing some of the dried peppers, grinding tomatoes, mixing dough for homemade tortillas, and sampling hibiscus tea, horchata, a variety of dips and salsas, black beans, and mole! Jeronimo was very knowledgeable about the ingredients and processes used to perfect each portion of the dish. We felt like honored guests in Abuela's kitchen and could have imagined a better way to spend our day in Cozumel. Thank you, Jeronimo and Angie for being gracious hosts and sharing your culture and knowldege with us. If we make it back to Cozumel, we will come see you again!
