Excellent tour - Great experience! Alvaro was fantastic, friendly, knowledgable and generous with the trip. He added an unscheduled side trip that we loved in addition to the main event.

Must do in Oaxaca! - This has to do be on everyone’s list when visiting Oaxaca. Our guide Rojas showed us his around his families farm and distillery - sharing tonnes of local knowledge and stories. The Mezcal was better than any I’ve ever had and they had stacks of varieties to try - from different distilling methods to different plant varieties. The lunch at the end was excellent as well. Thanks for an awesome experience!

Nice tour! - Alvaro gave us an amazing experience in the world of Mezcal. He has so much knowledge that he is willing to share. Also he is just a really nice guy with lots of humor and enthusiasm. The visit to the destillery was impressive, and after tasting a good variety we now feel equipped to order the mezcals we like in town. We recommend going on this tour with him!

Great tour! Fun way to learn about mezcal! - We had a great time! Learned a ton about mezcal and really enjoyed Alvaro's company! It is much more complex than tequila and you can really appreciate what goes into the process after this tour.

A thoroughly enjoyable and educational Mezcal experience - Our tour with Alvaro was brilliant. We visited the agave fields and two distilleries. Alvaro imparted lots of knowledge about the production of Mezcal and the different types and we got to try lots of different varieties. I would highly recommend this tour.

Interactive and fun tour - This was an exceptional tour! It was amazing to walk through the distilleries, tasting rooms and agave farms. Alvaro was attentive and informative. We even stopped to learn about the Zapotec peoples and culture. A truly beautiful time. If you like a more personal and intimate tour, I suggest touring with Alvaro. It's obvious he takes pride in what he does and does it at a fair price. And of course, the mezcals are delicious!

A Walk in their Shoes - This is not your typical tour as we were truly walking in a day in a life of a Mezcal family’s distillery. The tour was not like other tours where it was rushed or sales pitchy. We had the opportunity to explore Alvaro family’s distillery and another distillery near by. During the time, he explained to us the important of Mitla (the town), various agave plants around the region, and of course tried 10+ different bottles of Mezcal. We had the opportunity to visit and explore a textile family business. Overall, amazing experience and highly recommended!

A day in the agave fields - To be out in rural Oaxaca in the agave fields was magical. And visiting a small family run palenque and tasting a variety of mezcals was great. Alvaro gave a great presentation of each type of mezcal. And the lunch was brilliant! Highly recommended.

Fun and informative mezcal tour - We had a great day with Alvaro on his Mezcal tour. We picked this tour because my wife is gluten free and Alvaro mentioned that dietary restrictions are catered for, which they were. It was only a small group of 4 on this day but this allowed for lots of chats with Alvaro and the other couple. We are Australian and spoke no Spanish but this was fine as Alvaro speaks very good English. We stopped at an artisanal Mezcal distillery outside Mitla and went through the entire Mezcal production process (including chopping some agave ourselves!) and ended up with a comprehensive tasting of 7-8 different styles of Mezcal paired with a fantastic lunch - a stone bowl filled to overflowing with an assortment of grilled meats, cheese and vegetables along with guacamole and corn chips - more than enough food! We may have been a touch “dizzy” (as Alvaro put it) when we were done! We then drove to the family mezcaleria and tasted their own mezcals from a range of farmed and wild agave. We handmade our own cocktails before going out to look at their agave fields and had a go at trimming the plants with the machete (not so good after a few mezcals!) We then drove back to Oaxaca at the end of an enjoyable day - thank you Alvaro we had a great day! I would highly recommend this tour

Disappointed cancelation - The owner/guide cancelled our trip an hour before we are supposed to meet him at the church in Jalatlaco. Alvaro said he woke up sick, and that he is the only one at his company. He corresponded by WhatsApp. I had to call Viator to ask for a refund. I have received an email saying my refund is in process, at the time of this writing. It happens. we were unable to reschedule the tour. Disappointing .
