- Parque Nacional El Boqueron - El Boqueron National Park, situated atop the dormant San Salvador Volcano at an elevation of 5,905 feet (1800 meters), features a prominent attraction: a crater measuring five kilometers in diameter and plunging 558 meters deep. With a reported count of 170 bird species, the park is particularly renowned for its highland avian inhabitants.

Ecoparque El Espino offers a habitat for a rich variety of bird species, with around 221 different species recorded. It is recognized as the sixth top birdwatching hotspot in El Salvador.
Some of the easily spotted bird species in Ecoparque El Espino include the Pacific Parakeet, Red-billed Pigeon, Berylline Hummingbird, White-throated Magpie-Jay, Squirrel Cuckoo, Gartered Trogon, Masked Tityra, Violet Sabrewing, Blue-throated Goldentail, Black-headed Saltator, Altamira Oriole, Gray Hawk, and Collared Aracari.
El Boqueron National Park, located on the dormant San Salvador Volcano at an elevation of 5,905 ft (1,800 m) above sea level, boasts a remarkable feature: a crater that spans 3 miles (5 km) in diameter and descends 1,830 ft (558 m) deep.

Full day birdwatching in San Salvador -
My wife and I spent a very enjoyable day with Rodolfo Walsh. I sent him a list of the regional endemics I was hoping to see. He suggested going to the cloudforest in the morning and to a local park in the afternoon. We then added a visit to the lip of a crater at midday.

Rodolfo is charming, wellspoken and a pleasure to be with. His English is excellent having studied in the US for nine years. He has an excellent ear and knows where to look for the birds.Â

Our day was very successful with Rodolfo finding 17 life birds for us, far exceeding our expectations.

Birds, landscapes and delight - We went with Rodolfo on 3 different birds trips in the beginning of Feb, that last near 3 days in total. We saw a lot of birds, specially great waterbirds in Barra the Santiago, but much more, we where able to see exceptional scenery (volcanoes) and had always very interesting conversations, not only on birds. He is an excellent tourist guide, as well, which we appreciated. We recommend Rodolfo even if you are not an avid birders. You will enjoy is presence.

Great bird guide - My family had a wonderful three days birding with Rodolfo in El Salvador. He is a passionate bird guide and I recommend him for birders, and those that also appreciate learning about El Salvador from someone with excellent English and Spanish. Per eBird, we saw 57 species with him!
Once we connected with Rodolfo as we were planning our trip, and helped him appreciate our family constraints of having a 3.5 year old and also wanting a great beach experience — he provided an excellent hotel recommendation and offered multiple ½-day birding options for us to choose. He also met us at the airport and provided excellent transport on the 3+ hour drive.
Rodolfo is an excellent communicator, genuinely interested in people as well as birds, and will be a great choice for you when hiring a Bird guide.

Incredible Birding Experience! - We had two amazing tours with Bird Watching El Salvador. Everything was top-notch from start to finish. Rodolfo was professional, knowledgeable, and incredibly passionate about the local wildlife. He is an expert, not only identifying a wide variety of species but also sharing fascinating insights about their behavior, habitats and conservation efforts. He took us to some of the most stunning spots in El Salvador, where we were able to witness breathtaking landscapes and observe the rich diversity of birds in their natural environment. We loved the personalized experience which gave us plenty of time to appreciate every moment. I highly recommend any of his tours, it was an unforgettable adventure that truly highlighted the beauty of El Salvador. Cant wait to go back!

The best mangrove and estuary tour - The entire experience with Rodolfo was amazing. He recommended a tip based on our specific interests and the rest of our El Salvador travel plans. He is super friendly, and went out of the way to help us find a secure place for our car since we had our luggage in it. The birding tour itself was incredible, and we saw an amazing display. Rodolfo was unhurried and even went back to the mangroves a second time to find crocodiles which we couldn’t find on our first go around. He was so patient in describing the birds and in answering our many questions. I highly recommend an excursion with Rodolfo - it’s entertaining, a little adventurous, and loads of fun!

Amazing 4 days with Rodolfo - Cannot imagine a better guide than Rodolfo, he made my stay unforgettable. More than 100 species in 4 days. His knowledge is amazing. Besides that Rodolfo gave me the chance to learn a lot about El Salvador. 100 % recommendation!

Wonderful Birding in El Salvador - Rodolfo is an amazing birder and guide. We spent 2 days with him, and saw/heard over 50 species of birds, even though one of the days was very windy. We're elderly amateur birders, but Rodolfo easily adjusted to our pace and experience. He speaks excellent English, provided comfortable transportation, lent us a couple pairs of binoculars, and joined us for tasty lunches. I'm especially happy to have seen the national bird (turquoise browed motmot) and Lessons motmots... After our hikes, Rodolfo provided us a list of all the birds we experienced. We highly recommend him.

Very good guide - Pretty punctual with a lot of patience, I did 2 days of birding with Rudolph, I had many lifers as well as taking pictures of the birds I was very happy; It is knowledgeable of the birds of the area.

Great day with Rodolfo - I had an excellent day birding at Cerro Verde and Joya de Ceren. Rodolfo is very knowledgeable about birds as well as local culture and history, and is a very patient teacher. He went out of his way to make my day enjoyable, and I had a great time. Highly recommend!

Lifetime bird watching - I have wanted to go bird watching in Central America for a while, but for safety reasons I kept delaying it. I read a lot of articles about how safe El Salvador is. I had some doubts, but I decided to research bird watching opportunities and city tours. That's when I found and contacted Rodolfo Walsh; I am so glad I did! I spent four days bird watching and traveling around El Salvador. The country is spectacular, the birds were stunning, and the El Salvadorian food was delicious. Rodolfo Walsh is extremely knowledgeable with the birds and the city; he is always on time and has one of the best personalities and attitudes. I highly recommend Rodolfo Walsh and a trip to El Salvador. Nothing can go wrong with this combination.
