Firefly Tour - Thanks for the tour and the ride. We had a lovely afternoon and evening. During the boat trip to the Firefly it rained heavily and so we could not see them. However, the operator decided to drive out a second time after dinner and there we could see them. This was a niceness I really appreciate.

Quite the experience - We found out about this trip via our driver Mr. Azrien, he was honest and reliable, he didn't sugar coat any attraction and his suggestions were concrete. We were greeted with tea and snack while waiting for the start of the journey, then we swam and observed the animals: mud skippers, crabs, monkeys and baby crocs. Then we waited until it was dark to see fireflies along the river. Trip ended with tasty dinner. It was quite the experience.

Great and memorable trip! - The cruise was great, there were many opportunities for photos and learning as our guide, Azrien was extremely knowledgeable and hospitable. He ensured that we got to see all the best sites and made the entire journey very comfortable, going out of his way to ensure our safety multiple times. Fireflies by the mangrove and local dinner - This tour was well worth it. Our driver, Jafar, was very friendly and his daughter was the tour guide and was great with lots of knowledge about the wildlife and local area (think her name was Ivy). The tea in the local town was nice and included snacks. The cruise was really good, we saw probascis monkey and long tail macaque on the way to an island to watch the sunset then on the way back saw fireflies and a baby crocodile. The fireflies were amazing and apparently are even better on darker nights (the moon was quite bright when we went). It was also really nice to see the stars on such a clear night on the river. The local food after the cruise was amazing and there was so much of it we couldn't eat it all.

Firefly tour - Went to the firefly tour and had a wonderful time exploring the mangroves looking for monkeys along the water, saw some proboscis monkeys and other monkeys. We watched the sunset from the boat, caught some fish and then when the sun went down saw some beautiful twinkling fireflies along the mangove trees! Had such a wonderful experience and so thankful tl have had an amazing and knowledgeable driver - Abdul - who took us there, came along on the boat ride and had so many interesting facts about the surrounding environment, such a lovely guy highly recommended taking his number if you are in the Sandakan/Sepilok area and want to learn about the area whilst exploring it! Interesting Tour - This is an interesting tour. You get to see genuine local village and houses, a cruise through the mangroves where you can see various wildlife including monkeys. After dark you do get to see the fireflies. We did not see many as the moon was full so not as dark as it can get. It was still a good experience. You then have a meal in the village which is reasonable quality, the villagers are very friendly and helpful. Would recommend.

Fireflies cruise. - Enjoyed the experience. Fireflies were interesting. Didn't see any other wildlife. Food was good. Guide was entertaining.

Mangrove firefly cruise good, dinner good. The rest a waste of time - Seeing Fireflies in the dark was amazing. The snack before was unnecessary as was the trip to the island. There was nothing on the island except aload of rubbish on the beach that doesn't get collected and the police. The ride along through mangroves was interesting, seeing the monkeys and of course the fireflies. Dinner afterward was good.

Mangrove and fireflies Jan 24 - Cruising down the river in the dark was quite amazing. Not many fireflies out and we did not spend time with the village kids or throw pots so that was a bit disappointing. The food was plentiful and delicious, even the doughnuts at the start! As there was no sunset due to weather the island was superfluous so this should be reconsidered if it rains.

Do not book! - The tour guide did not show up! Viator have refunded us so no issue with them, but do not book this tour. If you want to do it, all of the grab drivers seem to know people who do a similar tour and you can pay in person when they show up. We sadly couldn’t do this because we waited for too long for the guide to show up and then all the other tours had already departed. A real shame!
