- Bermuda Aquarium, Natural History Museum & Zoo - Situated in Flatts Village, Bermuda, this Aquarium & Zoo was founded in 1926. The facility emphasizes showcasing oceanic island species, along with education and research about these species. The Aquarium is located just inside the main entrance and features over 200 species of fish and invertebrates in various naturalistic displays. The largest exhibit is the 140,000-gallon North Rock Exhibit, a living replica of North Rock. The actual North Rock is part of the Rim Reef system, the northernmost chain of coral reefs globally. The entrance fee is $10 per person.
Next, visitors head to St. George for a brief tour (30 minutes) followed by a 2-hour swim at St. George’s most popular beach, Tobacco Bay.
- St. George Town Hall - St. George, Bermuda’s first capital from 1612 to 1815, is located in the parish of St. George. It was settled in 1612 and is the oldest continuously inhabited British town in the New World.
- Tobacco Bay - Situated in St. George, Tobacco Bay is near the historic Fort St. Catherine. As one of Bermuda’s national parks, it is a very popular public beach. Snorkeling is a favored activity due to the bay’s impressive underwater coral reefs, which attract many snorkelers.
Tobacco Bay is also historically significant due to its connection with Bermuda’s “Gunpowder Plot.” On August 14, 1775, a group of Bermudians sympathetic to the Continental Congress stole gunpowder from the British Magazine, located just above the Unfinished Church, and transported it down the hill to Tobacco Bay, where it was shipped to American vessels waiting nearby.
