- Ta’ Cenc Cliffs - With an impressive 150 metre height, Ta’ Ċenċ Cliffs are the tallest cliffs in Gozo. The area surrounding the promontory is a Natura 2000 site, full of protected biodiversity that marvels its visitors.
Naturalists will be excited to hear that the area is dotted by garrigues and steeps ready to be explored. Additionally, the cliffs are an important Bird Area, home to many shearwaters.
To familiarise yourself with the area, you can go on a walk around the cliffs of Sannat, and admire the different geological layers of the cliffs. Besides the breathtaking views, visitors can look for archaeological remains of megalithic temples and cart ruts too!
- Xlendi Bay - Xlendi Bay is a picturesque and popular seaside destination known for its dramatic cliffs, crystal-clear waters, and quaint charm. Originally a tiny fishing village, Xlendi has evolved into a bustling small resort that attracts both tourists and locals throughout the year.
- Dwejra Bay - Dwejra, with its dramatic coastal formations and sea spilling over the rocks, is a magical attraction. Here you can swim in the spectacular deep sea of the bay, in the calm shallows of the inland sea or in the foamy waters around the Blue Hole – one of Gozo’s top dive-sites. For many years, Dwejra was home to the beautiful natural arch known as the Azure Window, which has now become a dive site after its collapse in 2017.
- Inland Sea - The Inland Sea is an extremely popular destination for locals and tourists. It’s a place that will bring you back. It’s one of the most scenic destinations in Gozo, offering a natural sea pool with an 80 metre long tunnel through the cliffs that leads to the Mediterranean sea. Many believe this unique formation was caused by a geological fault in the limestone which resulted in a sea cave where the roof later collapsed. It’s surrounded by a beautiful semi-circled pebble and many Fisherman huts.
There are many little boats offering sightseeing trips to the caves and to view where the Azure Window was once located. If diving, snorkeling, or stunning views are your things then look no further!
- Wied il-Ghasri - Wied l-Għasri, the Għasri Valley, is a marvellous place for a country walk or bike ride, especially in winter and spring. L-Għasri Valley is a deep gorge-like valley with very high cliffs carved into the Lower Coralline Limestone and the overlying Globerigerina Limestone.
Prickly pears and capers grow on and around the dry stone walls in and around the valley. During late spring the area becomes a carpet of red poppies.
- Xwejni Salt Pans - Situated just outside Xwejni Bay (limits of Żebbuġ, Gozo), Xwejni Salt Pans are one of the Island’s highlights and give visitors an insight into the traditional world of naturally collected salt.
Consisting of groups of shallow, square pails, the seawater is exposed to the elements and a combination of the water and wind evaporates the seawater, leaving only salt.
The salt is then collected and packed manually, using traditional methods.
Tours are operated and students and groups are welcomed to explore and learn.
- Qbajjar Bay Beach - Ix-Xwejni (Xwejni Bay) and il-Qbajjar (Qbajjar Bay), both easily reached through Marsalforn or iż-Żebbuġ, are two shallow bays right next to each other, with small pebbly beaches and rocky stretches leading into clear blue water. There is excellent swimming here enjoyed by locals and visitors alike and this is also a popular place for diving, especially for beginners.
- Marsalforn - If you’re pondering activities in Gozo, the coastal town of Marsalforn needs no introduction. Bustling with holidaymakers during the summer months and serene in winter, Marsalforn Bay has been a postcard-perfect destination since the early days of the tourism industry in the late ‘60s and ‘70s. There are many reasons why this seaside resort remains a favourite in Gozo.
- Comino - The smallest of the inhabited islands in the archipelago, though is mostly uninhabited, Comino is a truly stupendous location, with some of the clearest blue seas in the world, as well as fortifications from the early 17th century!
Only one family resides on Comino, the Vella family, who are well-known around the Maltese Islands and also have a growing international reputation, so much so, that in 2018, when international blogger Nas Daily visited, he specifically requested an interview with ‘Salvu ta’ Kemmuna’ (Salvu of Comino).
- Blue Lagoon - Swim stop in Summer in one of the main attractions is the stunning Blue Lagoon, which boasts of white sand with striking turquoise water. The water in this bay is so clear, that people are often mesmerised by the island’s scenery. What can be agreed by most people is that the images did not do the bay justice! Besides Blue Lagoon, the whole island of Comino is basically all swimming zones. Some of the popular alternatives include Santa Marija Bay and San Niklaw Bay, which offer a different bathing experience to the Blue Lagoon, however, just as stunning, and potentially a bit quieter.
